What Did You Say? Dumbledore is Gay

Add comment October 20th, 2007

Rowlings outed Dumbledore this weekend at a question and answer session at Carnegie Hall in New York. A kid asked her if Dumbledore ever loved anyone, her reply was “Dumbledore is gay, actually”.

Personally, I think it was brave of her to make such a statement and to stick by it. According to ABCNews.com, she was in a script read through for the sixth film when they had Dumbledore talking about a girl he once knew and she pointed it out to the movie folks right then and there that he was in fact gay.

Of course this just adds fuel to the fire to all the right-winged, Christian nut jobs out there who thing that the Harry Potter books series is the coming of the anti-christ. For goodness sakes it is a non-religious, fictional fantasy series people. Go fight some real evil and lower my gas prices!

One idiot, Laura Mallory, even went so far as to say “A homosexual lifestyle is a harmful one. That’s proven, medically.” WTF? What medical journals is she getting her science fiction from? But what can we expect from someone who got notoriety by proclaiming that the book series was indoctrinating kids into the Wiccan religion. Sounds to me like she is just one more of those people who are out to ban Halloween and Christmas trees just because they are based on pagan religions.

The book series is good and no political or religious agenda is pushed on anyone, child or adult. The only thing Rowlings pushes on anyone is tolerance and acceptance. Unlike those who are spouting all of this hate toward everyone over a fictional character.

Howdy Partner!

Add comment October 19th, 2007

I really, really hate the term partner when referring to an intimate relationship. When I hear the term I actually cringe. Partner just brings to mind business partners, tennis partners and cowboys.

I watch a lot of BBC America and I hear the term frequently, usually when referring to a straight person’s other half. I see the British folk have picked up the term and ran with it. Whatever happened to terms like husband, wife, spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend?

I’m not saying you sound gay using the term it’s just that you have so many to choose from why use one that sounds stupid?

Bumper Stickers: Good Ways to Get Your Ass Kicked

Add comment October 18th, 2007

I have had a few controversial bumper stickers in my time which have caused me to have me and my car attacked, both physically and verbally.

Nuke the Gay Whales for Jesus. Well that one is just funny no matter who you are, unless of course you are a right wing zealot or overly sensitive activist.

Nuke the Whales and Pave the Beaches. I have a thing about sand I hate it. This was a big joke, which is not so funny in some circles I suppose.

Against Abortion – Don’t Have One! This one got my car egged, pamphlets on abortion left on my windows and me yelled at as I got into my car on many occasions. I am pro choice, but that choice does not have to be to have the abortion. People can’t seem to grasp that concept can they?

Assimilation is Not A Family Value. The rainbow lettering should give some of that away while the obvious Star Trek Borg reference slaps you in the face. I stood my ground while a redneck got in my personal space pounding on my car asking what this meant. Thank goddess he took my “it’s a Star Trek thing you wouldn’t understand” answer and left me alone.

Tornado Dreams Kept Me Twisting and Turning

Add comment October 17th, 2007

Once again my dreams come to haunt me. This time I am being chased by the weather. Tornadoes to be exact. They are getting closer and closer and there is no getting away from them.

Dream analysis would say I feel trapped by my personal or professional life. Could be true. Or it could just be I ate a little too much before bed time and my niece told me it felt like tornado weather before I left her that night.

Cannibal Dreams

Add comment October 16th, 2007

I don’t usually dream, at least not that I remember. But last night’s was a real winner. When I do remember my dreams they are often of the same city. This is not a city I have ever actually been in. It is either total fantasy or something from a past life experience. If the latter is true then I hope my dream last night has nothing to do with reality.

I was dumped off on the southern side of this town which is full of abandoned buildings mostly old empty factories and the like. Started out in a car but ran into a blocked road which was guarded my military-type, big guys with guns who chased us [not sure who was with me] off the road and we had to leave the car. Once out of the car we were chased through several empty and decaying industrial buildings. On the other side of these buildings we came to a wooden area, not really a forest and not a jungle just a heavily wooded area. Here we encountered scary cannibals who chased us through the woods. Woke up before I was caught but there did not appear to be any escape.

I am sure a dream analysis would say I am feeling trapped by my personal or professional life. Well, they wouldn’t be too far off when it comes to the old job. Can’t live with it and can’t live without it.

Superman Doomsday DVD

Add comment October 13th, 2007

SupermanI just finished watching the new DC Comics DVD Superman vs Doomsday. It was taken from the death of Superman stories, but turns out a bit different than the books. I do like the animation. It is a little like the Marvel animated movies before it. But I have two major complaints.

First, the high cheekbone lines on Superman’s face need to go. They do not have the desired effect. Instead they only make him look like he is supposed to be a hundred years old.

Superman and LoisSecondly, why Anne Heche as Lois Lane? I hear her voice and I see the dizzy blonde she is and not Lois. But maybe it is fitting that the other famous break down in superman proportions also now plays Lois. Like Margot Kidder before her Lois is once again being played by a whack job. When they do more of these I hope they pick a better actress to do Lois’ voice.

There are points when the story is a little slow but overall I think it is pretty good for a first time out. Thanks DC.

Visit the official Superman vs Doomsday Website for more info.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Reprise

Add comment October 10th, 2007

I already brought up that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month with my post about the Pink Breast Cancer Loofa Dog toy. But I just wanted to touch on this very important subject yet again with just a couple of things.

First, 1800-FREE411 will donate $1 for each new call. So go ahead and dial them up and ask them for a phone number. What’s it gonna cost you other than a minute or two fo your time? Nada, that’s what.

Secondly, I followed a car to work with a pink ribbon on the back with find a cure emblazoned across it. Nice sentiment, if only the drive meant it. She was puffing away on a cigarette as she was speeding down the highway. While only a few studies show a connection between breast cancer and smoking, we do know there is a connection between lung cancer and smoking. [And I won’t even start on the affects of second hand smoke on people around you.] All I will say is if you are concerned about one cancer perhaps you should be a little concerned about the other forms of cancer.

With that said here are a few things to do to help prevent breast cancer…

  • Reduce your weight. Obese people, especially postmenopausal women have an increased risk of breast cancer.
  • Don’t drink. 2 or more alcoholic beverages a day have been proven to increase your risks.
  • Don’t smoke. It is just the smart thing to do.
  • Exercise. Increased physical activity may lower your risks of getting cancer and like milk it does a body good.

And don’t forget, while most people think of breast cancer as a woman’s disease [that’s the reason behind all the pink you see in October], men can get breast cancer too.

What’s Up With Wendy’s?

Add comment October 8th, 2007

Here’s another issue with food. I am really starting to think I have a black food aura or something. Okay, so this particular issue is not as big as some of my past problems with restaurants.

Today at work we got our lunch at Wendy’s. One person went for it while the rest of poor slobs kept on slaving. When they got back and I got my food it turned out the drink was diet instead of regular. In and of itself this is not a big issue, but since the order was a take out delivery it made getting it fixed next to impossible or at the very least a big pain in my butt.

I cannot drink diet Coke because of the nutra sweet. I know there are a lot of other people who cannot have nutrasweet either. So it seems like an important issue that restaurants get drink orders right.

I was able to go after work and get the drink switched for the right one, but I had to waste both my time and gas by driving out of my way to get this issue corrected. So I guess I could have weighed the cost of the drink against my time and the gas, but at this point in my bad food karma it is the point of the matter that counts!

While I am bitching and moaning about Wendy’s I have a few other things to gripe about. First, Dave Thomas is rolling in his grave at this latest advertise campaign with the guys in the red pigtail wigs. These are stupider than those idiotic caveman commercials. Guess they will be made into a TV series too.

Secondly, what is with the teeny, tiny piece of beef in the value menu burgers? It is only about the size of a half dollar and almost as thin too. Yet the commercials show what I have to assume is the regular bacon cheeseburger but they say it is the jr. bacon cheeseburger. I thought they had to show the actual food in commercials. If that is true then why don’t I get that burger when I order it?

Bad Restaurant Service Again

Add comment October 7th, 2007

The bad restaurant karma continues. I don’t know what it is about me and eating out but the combination seems to be a bad one.

Last Saturday we met friends at the local Appplebee’s and the service was horrible. There were only four us at the table and we were only one of a few tables our waitress Ashley P. had so I am not quite sure as to what the problem was.

It all started when the food came out to the table. Everyone’s food but mine arrived. When mine arrived I was told the shrimp would be coming out shortly because they gave me the fried shrimp instead of the grilled. Not a big deal really, but then I cut into my steak. The steak was supposed to be medium rare. It was not. Instead it was well done, not even close to medium let alone medium rare. So when the person [I think the manager] brought out my shrimp I let him know about the steak being wrong. I was quickly brought the right steak.

Our waitress never returned to see if we needed anything else like drink refills. We had to track someone down. Again I think a manager.

Okay, so a manager was at our table three times and knew of all our problems. Why did he not do something for us? Not that I am out to get a discount at every restaurant I eat at, but I think we should have been offered something for our trouble. I won’t be back to that Applebee’s that’s for sure.

Dental Dilemmas

Add comment October 7th, 2007

A while ago I had a filling come out while I was flossing. I had to get to work and could not get an immediate appointment for my dentist. That was partially my fault because I did not want to pay the inflated prices for an emergency dental visit. So I had to wait two weeks to get the tooth filled.

In those two weeks I had to hide my smile, which is rather hard to due when you work in retail. It might not have been so bad but the tooth was near the front and everyone could see it.

But that was not the worst part. The pain was really bad any time I would eat or drink anything, even when I breathed.

If I had known back then about Dentemp OS I would have saved myself some pain and embarrassment. Dentemp OS is a temporary dental repair formula that lets you quickly, usually within sixty minutes, repair your lost filling or crown. By filling in that gap in my tooth I could have avoided the pain caused by contact with food and even air.

What is Dentemp OS you ask? It is the number one temporary dental repair material on the market. It has a dual use for both lost fillings and loose crowns. It quickly relieves pain and discomfort from those dental conditions. There is no mixing, no mess, just use it straight out of the vial, which contains about six applications in it. The best part is in about thirty minutes you can eat on it.

I really wish I had known about this inexpensive and easy to use over-the-counter dental repair back then. Dentemp OS is readily available in most drugstore chains and of course online. So next time you find a missing filling or loose crown head out to your local drugstore for a temporary fix until you can get to your dentist.
