My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R. My bologna has a second name, it’s M-A-Y-E-R. Oh, I love to eat it everyday, and if you ask me why, I’ll say, ‘Cause Oscar Mayer has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A.
Every once in I get a hankerin’ for a good old fashioned bologna sandwich. The other day was just such a day. So while at the store I grabbed a package of Oscar Mayer’s boloney of the rack. Got home all ready to make me a sammy when I spied a colony of freeloaders on the side of my tasty treat! Some how they worked their way into a sealed package. Needless to say I did not eat a bologna sandwich that night, nor will I for awhile.
Thank goodness the store [Redner’s Markets] took it back. They really shouldn’t have given me any problems any way since the expiration date was still a ways off and my receipt was only dated the day before.
I also called Kraft and they sent out a coupon for a replacement package of bologna. Good customer service from both places and thank goodness I did not each any of the meat.
Today is Earth Day and it’s going to the dogs. I have already written about my favorite eco-superhero Captain Planet and his trusty sidekicks the Planeteers the other day listing a few helpful things you can do every day to make our planet a better place to live.
Today I want to write a little about our pets and what we can do to help them help us on our quest for a more environmentally friendly planet. I just think it is important that we make changes in every aspect of our lives and this includes our pets.
First and foremost are the toys besides treats this is what we buy the most of for our furry little friends. Pet toys vary in product types and the materials used to make them.
Look for toys that are either recycled or can be recycled. These can include plush, rubber and plastic toys. Remember to recycle the packaging too. Most packaging is made of recyclable cardboard and plastics. Be mindful of what you send out to the landfills.
Try to find all natural alternatives to pest control instead of using harsh chemicals. This is better for the environment and for your pet.
Organic treats will not only be healthier for your pets but will not add unwanted chemicals and fertilizers to the soil thus reducing ground pollution.
West Paw Designs Eco Toys are made from recycled plastic bottles. Not sure how they do it but the material and the stuffing used to be plastic bottles. Pretty cool huh? They also make beds and rubber out of the recycled materials too.
EcoPure Naturals makes natural products for your pets from flea and tick spray to aromatherapy for dogs.
Robbie Dawg makes tasty organic treats for dogs and cats.
Whole Life treats are freeze dried treats with basically one ingredient. Those ingredients come from free range or wild caught animals.
These great toys, treats and other fine products are available at DogToys.com and CatToys.com check them out today!
I don’t care who you vote for this is not a political debate here. I just think every person in PA of voting age needs to get out there and make their voices known.
If you are not a registered voter shame on you.
I stopped in and gave them my two cents worth before heading to work. I couldn’t believe it that I was the only one in there voting! And I was only number 25 too!
Just wondering, do you think the placement on the ballet has any influence on the folks who go to vote and are still undecided? I saw the Democrats had Obama over Hillary and Ron Paul was first on the ballet for the Republicans. So if you go to do your civic duty and are not sure who you are voting for until you get in there would that placement make a difference to you?
Tonight’s Big Bang Theory was hilarious, especially for all of us Star Trek geeks. The episode starts out with the guys sitting around talking about Spock’s conception and Vulcan mating rituals, pon far, and a possible fertility clinic with Sarek going in with a copy of Pointy Ears and Shapely Rears [I think that was the name of the mag he came up with]. and how all aliens on Star Trek have the same private parts and why no alien woman ever told Kirk ‘get your thing out of my nose?’. [I missed the first few minutes so I am not sure why they were talking about Spock’s conception, perhaps they were discussing the upcoming new Star Trek film].
Then the boys quote Spock’s dying words to get Sheldon to join them in the physics bowl. The needs of the many out weight the needs of the few or the one. Works every time. Sheldon agrees to do it and holds up his hand in the familiar Vulcan salute.
Sheldon then designs the perfect uniforms for the competition. Colors are based on Star Trek the guys will wear support red and he will wear command gold. [Is he saying they will all die before the end of the episode, er contest?] When he walks out in his command shirt followed by three red shirts I got the giggles.
After the contest Penny comes in to prove who is the smartest with a bunch of trivia questions. Here are a few of those questions and responses…
Penny: What actor holds the record for being named People magazines sexiest man alive?
Sheldon: William Shatner
Leonard: I don’t think it’s Shatner.
Sheldon: Then it’s got to be Patrick Stewart.
Penny: No.
Penny: Tweety Bird tought he taw a what?
Sheldon: Romulan.
Penny: Yes. He tought he taw a Romulan
When this epsidoe finally hits the net I will have to rewatch it. Thank goodness for CBS and other stations putting full episodes on the web.
Earth Day is coming up [tomorrow, but you should think of every day as earth day] and it seems like all my TV stations have been going green of late. Well at least for the last week or two any way. They are all changing their station ID bugs [you know those stupid little logos in the corner of your screens and sometimes the entire bottom third of your screen]. They all have an eco-friendly or green skew to them. Which is a nice little reminder for all of us watching their shows to take time out to take the necessary steps towards saving our environment. [But I know next week it will all go back to the regular old logos.]
My favorite of these eco-friendly ads is The Captain Planet and the Planteers commercials I am seeing on the Cartoon Network. I remember watching this show way back when it first came out in 1989. The edu-tainment show was the brainchild of Ted Turner’s TBS, which was then taken over by Hanna-Barbera when TBS purchased them and the rest is enviro-history.
So take the time this April to get to know Captain Planet and the Planeteers and do something good from Mother Earth.
As so many Albright students have informed me in the past couple of months the city of Reading sucks. [Why they don’t Google that fact before coming to school in this city is beyond me. Guess they would rather come here and bitch about the city than do a little research about a place they are going to be living in for the next four years.] The crime rate is high and so are the taxes. The property taxes keep going up making it impossible to own a house in this city let alone try to sell one. Who wants to buy a house here when just outside the city you can get a bigger house with more land and pay half the taxes on it?
Now doing my taxes I found out that they doubled our local income taxes in 2007! Of course we aren’t told about this so it comes as a big surprise when we owe the city money. It seems like every year I am going in to work and asking the accountant to take more out of my paycheck for local taxes. Who in this city can we complain to about the state of local taxes? And where that increased money is going?
I might not mind so much if they did something to improve this town, but the only change I have seen this year is a red LED interactive sign on the Penn street bridge. An ugly eyesore that is wasting precious electricity which in turn is wasting oil. No wonder gas in the Reading area costs more than in Philadelphia. Pretty sad when turnpike gas is less than local gas.
Okay, so I don’t have a dog, but I do have nefew and niece dogs not to mention friends with dogs too. I came across this very cute flea dog toy and I just had to get it for my favorite little white poodle fondly known has Pooper Scooper [his real name is PC aka Prince Charming, but he has been Poop D. Scoop since he was a wee little pup and thus he will remain].
The dogs live with their family [my sister, her hubby and thier kids] next door to our folks so they come down to visit all the time. Even having sleep overs at Grandma’s house. So I dropped the toy off there knowing that eventually the doggies come down and get their reward if they aren’t there when I stop by.
Well the other day I stopped in and Mom had the FLEA on her sofa nestled in the throw pillows. I don’t think the dogs will be seeing this toy for some time. He is awful cute. The flea dog toy looks a lot like a Muppet more than a dog toy. I love him! He is twelve inches high which seems big but he isn’t really. Even little dogs will like biting back this flea. They can bite until he squeaks or just grab a leg and shake him. It is a nice little revenge toy for your dog. Let him get back at the pests who bother him [and you].
I just found out that they make a cat version too! My favorite online store for cat toys does not have them yet but I emailed and they say they will look into carrying them. Yeah!
Update: Like I said the catnip flea cat toy is now available at CatToys.com.
While I wasn’t able to find a definitive answer to my question from a vet or pet site. That question being: Are onions bad for cats? I was able to find a very knowledgeable and friendly online group [Cats and Kittens Yahoo Group] that confirmed for me that my suspicions were correct.
An onion will basically cause the animal to become anemic by attacking the cat’s hemoglobin just like in dogs. They even go on to explain about a Heinz Body, the dangers of onion powder and that garlic has the same dangerous compound only in lower doses than onions. These people know their kitties that’s for sure. They were also a huge help to me when I first got Boris as a baby that needed hand fed.
Boy the list of bad foods and things to keep away from my precious pets just keeps getting longer and longer!
Well another April Fools Day has come and gone without anything significant happening to me. I never pull anything off myself, but I usually get hit. Or the very least someone tries something.
I don’t watch the news or read the paper [not even a blog on a daily basis] so I was in the dark on any attempts by the media too.
Only thing I did see was Pat Sajak’s little joke he pulled on Vanna White. He told her that he was coming clean and that he wears a hair piece and had her pull his wig off. They did a good job with the makeup [of course it is Hollywood]. But that’s the only joke I even heard about this year. Post your comments if you heard of or even better pulled of a good one.
I know it has got to be me. I know I am a bit of a bitch most of the time, but come on. I called my doctor’s office again for an easy task. One they have performed on many occasions. I just needed a new referal for my allergy doctors so my insurance would continue to pay for it.
Well the woman that picked up the phone was extremely rude [like the other day when I called for an appointment]. I swear there is only one nice person in that entire office. From now on when I call in I am automatically just going to ask for her. I don’t know what I will do if she ever leaves or retires. Guess I will look for a new doctors office.
Instead of the normal easy phone call I am given the third degree. Okay it was not the third degree but I was asked for all this information [provider id, fax number, my insurance number] that I am not normally asked for. In fact it is all stuff they should have in my file after two years of them doing this for me. When I finally had enough and asked for the nice nurse by name there was a long pause and Nasty McGee came back on the phone and said she had everything she needed in my file [duh] and would fax it to them for me. Couldn’t she just have done that in the first place?
But as I have said earlier it must be me. Even over the phone they see how easy it is to piss me off and try their hardest. I thought I had read some where that more and more hospitals and doctors offices were taking the whole customer service values to heart. Guess it hasn’t reached this little rinky dink office yet. When it does I know a few nurses who need some seminars.
