Hot Car Not Cooling Off

Add comment August 24th, 2008

There is nothing worse than getting into a dark car on a hot summer day except getting into that same car when the air conditioner isn’t working properly. My friend’s new car (you know the one she got after our accident last November) just does not seem to cool off the car. There has to be something wrong with the a/c compressor. It seems to cool off but just doesn’t pump that cool air into the car very well. Instead of paying the high prices at the dealership to get the part and fix the car she has been checking out DiscountACParts.com for the parts and my father will do the work. The parts are new and have a warranty so it really is a no brainer about getting her AC fixed and her hot car cooled off.

Review of Batman: Gotham Knight DVD

Add comment August 24th, 2008

Batman Gotham Knight DVDBatman: Gotham Knight is out on DVD now. It is the latest animated feature from
DC Comics. It is actually six mini movies all done (or should I so over done) in the anime / mango style. Just because anime is getting more popular doesn’t mean every thing needs to be produced in that style let alone in six different variations of the style. I don’t think any of the stories stands up on their own and they certainly don’t move smoothly from one story to the next. Over all I say avoid this or simply rent it or get it on demand like I did.

The best thing about this is that they got Kevin Conroy to voice the bat. He is the voice of Batman in almost all the animated versions to appear on TV. So if they could get him for this production why not use him in the Justice League animated film earlier this year?

Search For A New Web Host Begins

Add comment August 24th, 2008

I just found out my current web host is going to be raising their pricing soon so next year my services will be costing me more. I don’t want to lose my blog or my other pages just because I can no longer afford the hosting. So I am on the search for a new hosting provider. Looking not just for cheap web hosting but also added bonuses like high storage and traffic bandwidth plus mySQL databases, PHP, and other resources as well so I need some help. That’s where the folks over at WebHostingGeeks.com come in handy. They have reviews and ratings for many hosts. So I get to do my research all on one handy website. Now just to figure out which one I’ll be going with. Thanks to this site that should be pretty painless. With needing to host my blog that should not be any problem either, they have a review of the best blog hosting site too. Lots to look over and lots to think about.

Playing Summer Movies Catch Up

Add comment August 23rd, 2008

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was very good. Most people seem to have an issue with the fact that Narnia is not the same place it was in the first film. How could it be it is 1300 years later? For once I read the book first and this was a very close rending of the original. All but one scene, that is.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was pretty good. At first Harrison ford appears really old and you think how the heck is he going to pull this off. Surprisingly he does and you soon forget how Old he really is. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending (sorry spoiler alert)… I didn’t mind the whole alien thing or even the space ship leaving I the thing I did not like was how the 13 skeletons became one living breathing alien. They were dead and dead is dead even in alternate dimensions. A friend of mine did not like that Indy wasn’t on a search for a religious object. I beg to differ and say the crystal skulls are a religious object just not a Christian one. Perhaps after another viewing I’ll see past the resurrected alien and like it a bit better. Who knows.

Wall-e - This little robot will steal your heart. I just pretty much loved this whole flick. When I first heard the Wall-e soundtrack I couldn’t help wondering why they included the two songs from Hello Dolly. This becomes clear once seeing the film. The beginning is a little slow, but worth it. My only complaint (and not really sure it is a complaint] is that Wall-e did not affect more of the humans on the ship prior to the big final scene. I just think his presence on the ship would have caused more than two people to “awake” from their self-absorbed worlds before the big ending. Overall this is an excellent film worth both a big screen viewing and addition to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Hell boy 2 - I don’t usually get to say this, but this sequel was just as good as the first film. Had I not known this going in to the film I would have said the guy from Pan’s Labyrinth must of had something to do with this, and well, yes he did. Boy does it show, but in a good way. Visually stunning. But we get more than just new other worldly characters to look at, the story is good and our main characters are developed further as well. The scene that stands out the most for me has Hellboy and Abe singing to a Manilow song. You really have to see it. This film is well worth the big screen price tag.

Batman: The Dark Knight - Well here I go again this sequel is just as good (may even be better) than the first one. I tried to stay away from too many spoilers on this film before seeing it, which was a little hard to do after Heath Ledger died. It really is a darn shame too because he made one hell of a great Joker and it would have been nice to see him play the part again. The few glimpses I saw of the film before hand had me worried they were putting too many villains in one film like the last batch of Batman movies. But it is nicely done. Heck you don’t even need to see the first film to go see this one. We do get a glimpse of Scarecrow at the beginning, but the story is all about the Joker and Harvey Dent. By the end of the film I was getting a little tired of Christian Bale’s Batman voice. It actually started to grate on my nerves. I don’t mind his regular speaking voice too much even with his speak impediment, but when he lowers his voice for the Bat it just really bothers me. (And not just me but the two people that went with me said the same thing.) Since we saw the film it seems many other people have posted their reviews and have pretty much said the same thing.

Buffy The Animated Series Mini Pilot Loose on the Net

1 comment August 21st, 2008

A few years ago I first wrote about the possibility of an animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer over at ScifiSlacker.com and much like the ill-fated animated Star Trek they teased me with as well was never to be.

BtVS AnimatedAfter fours year one gives up hope that anything will ever happen. The one day you stumble on a tiny little blip in the TV Guide telling you that just this month someone leaked the 3 minute pilot for the BtVS animated series and your little heart starts a pumping. Hell, with the success of the BtVS Season 8 comics (gosh those are good) maybe they could see fit to bring about this once shelved project and breath life back into the Vampire Slayer franchise on the small screen.

The clip is very nicely done and done in a style of animation that I really like similar to the Batman The Animated Series cartoon. Very cool (if this does ever come into being I hope they stick with this style and don’t screw it up by making it pseudo anime).

Now this little pilot does have all our favorite characters doing their own voices except Sarah Michelle Gellar who apparently is too good to go back to doing anything Buffy related (what has she done lately besides the voice of Bufy on Robot Chicken?), but the girl doing Buffy’s voice (Giselle Loren) is most excellent and you would never even miss that other actress (what’s-her-face).

So to read more about Buffy the Vampire Slayer the Animated series or sign the petition to bring it on (maybe a DVD movie like the resurrection of Futurama) head over to BuffyAnimated.com. Watch and enjoy while you can (I am sure this will be yanked from YouTube at some point).

Label Your Life

Add comment August 21st, 2008

It is getting to be that time of year again. Time to go back-to-school. I live with a teacher so even though I don’t have to head back to school myself I get all those old feelings stirred up every year as this time of year rolls around. For teachers the school year has technically already started. They have to go in and get their rooms ready for the arrival of all the kids that will be flooding into the rooms.

I honestly cannot say I miss going back to school at all. I was a total wreck every year. I was (still am) a disorganized mess. Way back in my day (when we used to walk 12 miles to school in the freezing rain) we did not have handy organizational tools like the Dymo label maker. I wish I had one of those back then. I would have labeled everything, my books, notebooks; I would have used it to put my schedule on each and every one of my books and folders. I had an irrational fear of losing my schedule and not knowing where I was supposed to be. The labels would have been great and Color labels even better. They certainly would not have faded like writing on the book covers does and it certainly would be much neater that’s for sure.

So when you’re getting ready to head back to school be sure to add a Dymo label maker to your shopping list. It will make heading back to the classroom so much easier no matter whether it is kindergarten or college. You’ll find a valuable use for it, I’m sure.

Comcast Is Taking Me For A Ride

Add comment August 21st, 2008

Comcast is so ticking me off again. They splash advertisements all over the place trying to get you to sign up for their triple play program (TV, internet and phone) by enticing you with a free gift. Last month it was a Wii, the month before that a TV this month it is a years free DVR rental.

Well I finally broke down and did it. Guess what? You have to be a new customer. Not just a new customer to the triple play (which I am), but never having had an account with Comcast ever. I don’t think their fine print that flashes across the screen says that. All it says is new customer and I fit that bill as I NEVER, EVER had a triple play account. Oh, and to top it all off the price I was quoted is only good for a year. I wasn’t told it was special pricing. I was told that was the price (by the lady in the corporate office). Now I learn it will mostly likely double after my year is up! Sometimes I hate Comcast (okay so most of the time I hate them).

Get Off Your Butt And Fight Alzheimers

Add comment August 20th, 2008

The Alzheimer’s Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is coming up soon. It is a 2 to 3 mile walk for people of all ages to fight against this horrible disease. This is a cause, which has unfortunately touched the lives of my family. My grandmother, my dad’s mom, was diagnosed several years ago.

Alzheimer’s not only takes away the memories of those who suffer from the disease it also takes away the happy memories of their families too. My grandmother is suffering the ravaging effects of this disease and it has drastically changed how I remember her. I try to remember the happy times of visiting her and the smell of blueberry pancakes in the morning. Remember her as she was then not how she is now. She no longer recognizes me, but to be honest I no longer recognize her either. What I see now is not my grandmother, my Nanny Huff (that’s what we called her growing up), it is a stranger.

These walks are happening in over 600 locations this Fall. One should certainly be able to find one to join. Start a team, raise some money and MOVE us closer to a cure. If you can’t participate in the walk then please donate some money to help fight this disease.

Big Kitty - Is This Picture A Fake

Add comment August 20th, 2008

Big KittyI was poking around over at YouSayToo.com and I came across this post about a big pussy (of course they wanted to get all the folks with their minds in the gutter to click thu to the post). When I got there and saw this picture my immediate thought was that it had to be a faked photograph. Although I can’t seem to find the tell tale signs of a photoshopped image. But it has to be. there cannot be a kitty cat that huge. Can there? I appreciate any all feedback on this guy and if you know the owner of this big kitty please let me know!

Fat Cat The fat cat shown here is not the same pussy cat that the man is holding. It is just another example of a big ole kitty cat. My kitty Boris is the same type of white/tabby cat and he is big too, but not as big as these two guys. Gees! And I thought I had a big cat at nearly two feet long and 25 lbs. Heck, Boris is little compared to these two.

I think these two kitties need to get some exercise. Their people had better head over to Boris’ fav shop CatToys.com and buy some toys to get these guys moving!

I Want It Wednesday: Life-sized B9 Robot

Add comment August 20th, 2008

Life-sized B9 RobotEven though this life-sized replica of the Lost In Space robot (also known as the B9 robot) is half the price of the Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet he is still $25,000 more than I have to spend on a giant toy. Although I would love to have him.  B9 is not just a static replica either. His torso moves, his soil sampler comes out of his foot (and tells you the environmental analysis).

Besides all that fun stuff the robot has a 240-w att audio system, and speaks 511 pre-recorded phrases performed by Richard Tufeld, the original voice of the robot from the television series (including such familiar phrases as “Danger Will Robinson!”) Pulling the robot’s power pack causes it to utter “Aaghhhhhh…” just as it did in the TV series when being shut-down; plugging it back in prompts it to say “Who turned out the lights?” SWEET!

B9 Robot is available at Hammacher Schlemmer. A store I came to love from watching Murphy Brown.

New Microsoft Products Suck

Add comment August 19th, 2008

I was just reviewing my website stats and it looks like 70% of the people are still using Windows XP instead of Windows Vista. Could it be Vista sucks? Vista is pretty much the updated crap of Windows ME. Remeber ME? Yeah well, don’t feel bad not too many people do except those poor folk who made that horrible upgrade. Just like ME people are downgrading back to the older Windows version. XP, while not perfect is better than Vista hands down.

My stats also show that people are not rushing out to download IE7 either. With MSIE8 coming out soon there is no reason to move to version 7 now. I for one will move on to Firefox and drop Internet Explorer altogether.
