SUNDANCE SELECTS TO RE-RELEASE NANNI MORETTI’S WE HAVE A POPE (HABEMUS PAPAM)

Film Will Head to New York’s Lincoln Plaza and Have Major Digital Release

New York, NY (March 14, 2013) – Sundance Selects announced today that the company is going to re-release director Nanni Moretti’s (Palme d’Or winner THE SON’S ROOM, DEAR DIARY) comedic drama WE HAVE A POPE (HABEMUS PAPAM) beginning next Wednesday at New York’s Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, and nationally on multiple digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon, Xbox, GooglePlay, Sony Play Station and SundanceNOW. Moretti produced the film with Domenico Procacci (GOMORRAH, QUIET CHAOS) and co-wrote the film with Francesco Piccolo and Federica Pontremoli. He also stars in it alongside veteran actor Michel Piccoli (CONTEMPT, THE DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE) and Jerzy Stuhr. WE HAVE A POPE (HABEMUS PAPAM) had its premiere at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in competition.

In WE HAVE A POPE (HABEMUS PAPAM), the newly elected Pope (Piccoli) suffers a panic attack just as he is due to appear on St Peter’s balcony to greet the faithful, who have been patiently awaiting the conclave’s decision. His advisors, unable to convince him he is the right man for the job, seek help from a renowned psychoanalyst and atheist (Moretti). But his fear of the responsibility suddenly thrust upon him is one that he must face on his own.

President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films Jonathan Sehring said, “Recent world events made it irresistible for us to bring back WE HAVE A POPE which mirrors what much of the discussion on the world stage has been over the last few weeks. We’re happy to remind people of Nanni Moretti’s incredible film.”

Sundance Selects is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks, Inc.

The MasterAnchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD release of THE MASTER, the innovative film that has won over audiences and critics alike.  Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), the 1950s-set drama centers on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “The Master” (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Moneyball) who creates a belief system which catches on with other lost souls – and a young WW-II veteran (Joaquin Phoenix, Gladiator) who becomes his right-hand man.  In addition to Hoffman and Phoenix, the film also stars Amy Adams (Doubt) and Laura Dern (Little Fockers). THE MASTER heads to retail on February 26, 2013 for an SRP of $39.99 for the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and $29.98 for the DVD.

Haunted by his past, WW-II veteran and drifter Freddie Quell crosses paths with a mysterious movement called The Cause, led by Lancaster Dodd aka “The Master” and his wife Peggy.  Their twisted relationship is the core of this film that is “a glorious and haunting symphony of color, emotion and sound with camera movements that elicit an involuntary gasp and feats of acting that defy comprehension (A.O Scott, The New York Times).”

Joe Neumaier of The New York Daily News declared THE MASTER, “the season’s first Oscar contender.” THE MASTER received the following 2012 Academy Award® nominations -  Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Amy Adams for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.  The film received three Golden Globes® Nominations including Best Actor in a Drama Joaquin Phoenix, Best Supporting Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and Best Supporting Actress Amy Adams.

Awarded Best Actor for both Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, THE MASTER is a film “that casts a spell like a fever dream (David Ansen, Newsweek).”

Stunningly photographed in 65mm, THE MASTER stands as an undeniable cinematic experience. Will Freddie be able to outrun his past?  Will The Cause help or hurt him? Can this tortured, violent creature be civilized?  Or is man, after all, just a dirty animal?

The Master (2) JOAQUIN PHOENIX and PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN star in THE MASTER JOAQUIN PHOENIX stars in THE MASTER BRAY_20110808_UW_5448.CR2

THE MASTER Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD special features include: “Back Beyond” which features outtakes and additional scenes edited to music by Johnny Greenwood; “Unguided Message,” an 8 minute short / behind the scenes; Teasers/ Trailers.  The Combo Pack also includes an additional special feature “Let Their Be Light (1946), John Huston’s landmark documentary about WW-II veterans.”  Note: Special features are subject to change.

gg-jodie_fosterStraight from The Onion comes this video of how Jodie Foster’s Golden Globe speech has inspired LGBT youth to come out in a very round about, vague sorta way.

I am thinking maybe Jodie wants to ask the writers at The Onion to writer her next speech. I think it would be funnier at least.

At least Jodie is getting a lot of internet play out of this and has inspired memes like this one. It will keep her in the spotlight for her return to acting. Wait she said she was retiring. Wait no she didn’t. I am so confused.

Jodie Foster Inspires Teens To Come Out Using Vague, Rambling Riddles

Jodie Foster Golden GlobesFirst off, I have to admit I did not watch the Golden Globes (I hate award shows), but was later “forced” into watching the Jodie Foster speech.

I am not sure why folks are thinking she came out in that speech. She came out a few years back in a speech. This speech was really a bunch of nonsense to be honest.

What I take away from it is Jodie trying to be funny and failing. Her main point seemed to be about privacy and for people to mind their own damn business without ever really getting straight to that point. (But maybe that was a comment about stuff too…she’s not straight so how can she come straight to the point?)

Any who, let’s just call this an epic speech fail and just say congrats for the award and next time hire writers (or better writers) for your speech.

Watch it for yourself.

Cosmic Catnip Bubble ShooterThe Cosmic Catnip Bubble shooter has been thoroughly tested in the kitty testing lab (aka my home). I have seen this type of bubble blower in the toy stores and find it an interesting idea and a great way to save on batteries. This one just does not quite work. The kids versions of course are being used outside not inside so it does not matter what kind of mess is being made. Inside the house that is a different matter entirely.

This drips bubble fluid profusely. Since the star is so small and cannot be grabbed or squeezed with only one hand there is no way to hold the lid under the nozzle to catch all the dripping liquid. I had a soaking wet knee by the time I was done playing with Piper (and I think her head was a bit wet too). The packaging shows it being held and used with one hand. Unless you have immense hand strength there is no way you are getting bubbles out of this toy with one hand. Even with two hands it is sometimes hard to get more than one bubble at a time.

Cosmic Catnip Bubble ShooterOne of my cats (Piper) simply adores bubbles and has even become very aware that this toy makes her prized bubbles. If I pick up the blower she will run over and wait for the bubbles to be made. However, we both soon became very frustrated with the lack of bubbles that come out of the blower (she is used to a battery operated blower – the noise does not bother her and she gets tons of bubbles without the mess), so this small shooter was a big disappointment for her and me.

Simply put, the amount of mess it makes combined with the difficulty in blowing the bubbles the toy is just not worth it. Sorry.

This movie looks pretty funny (heck with Steve Carell & Steve Buscemi it has to be, right). Synopsis:  Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is [...]
