Marvel-ous Cartoons Are A Coming

Add comment June 27th, 2008

Marvel’s Wolverine and the X-men will come to TV in 2009 thanks to NickToons. But that’s not all that’s a coming. We will also get Ironman: The animated series!

Each will offer up 26 half hour episodes and give us all a reason to set our Tivos.

Check out the new trailer for Wolverine and The X-men (Marvel must have cleared up their little spat with the Foo Fighters).  :)

But wait you also get…

Another animated feature film on DVD this fall. NEXT AVENGERS: HEROES OF TOMORROW. That makes five.

Incredible Hulk or Incredible Dud

Add comment May 18th, 2008

Finally got to see the Ironman movie and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the action. Downey did a great job playing an alcoholic womanizer. Did he have practice? Seriously, he did an excellent job in the film. Before the movie we got a glimpse at a few of the summers upcoming flicks. Two in particular stood out for me Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Incredible Hulk.

I will mostly likely be waiting in line for Indy but not so much for the Hulk. Although this new trailer showed me a little more about the movie and that is might actually have a plot and not just be the big hideous CGI monster all the time. So I had hope for about 24 hours, now I am not so sure. I just read about Edward Norton’s disagreement with Marvel over the film’s substance at IGoTheBeat. According to IGTB and EW.com Marvel wanted a shorter faster paced film while Norton and the director wanted a longer film with more substance (I have to agree with Norton).

Perhaps the negative press will actually drum up viewers for the film. Most people I know weren’t planning on seeing this film simply because of how horrible Ang Lee’s Hulk was (I wouldn’t even give it a half star). So maybe with all the rumors and press people might just go to see what the hubbub is all about. I still won’t be seeing it in theaters, but someone might go. Good luck with that movie Marvel. You might be thanking your lucky stars that you did Ironman first.

Wolverine and the X-Men Cartoon

Add comment March 9th, 2008

Since I ranted about the Foo Fighters filing suit against Marvel Comics I thought I would write a little bit more about the trailer and the cartoon that has caused the whole mess. Wolverine and the X-Men

Wolverine and the Xmen
Writer: Greg Johnson
Director: Boyd Kirkland
Producer: First Serve Toonz in association with Marvel

Synopsis: When an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, the beaten heroes walk away from it all.

But then they’re given a rare glimpse into the future, and see a world in utter ruin, ruled by giant destructive robots. A world that spiraled out of control because the X-Men had given up.

So now the most legendary of all X-Men takes the lead - Wolverine! Reuniting these broken heroes, Wolverine embarks on the ultimate mission - to prevent de world’s destruction.

To rescue us from ourselves. To save the future.

From what I have seen through the trailer [which by the way is only available via YouTube these days] the show looks pretty good. I sincerely hope that this stupid lawsuit will not stop it from airing. I really want to see this show. We need more good animation on TV [like The Batman, League of Superheroes and now Spider-man (more on Spidey later)].

Apparently this was announced by Marvel way back in 2005. Looks like it was supposed to air last year. There is no current information on when or if this cartoon will be airing in the US.

You can view offending trailer for Wolverine and the Xmen here [for now].

Phooey on the Foo Fighters

Add comment March 8th, 2008

The foo fighters are suing Marvel Comics for using one or two of their Songs in a promo for the new X-men cartoon.

I for one think it is ridiculous. How can they claim damages when no one even remembers who the foo fighters are?

Heck, I would think they should be happy with the free publicity and exposure. Although that does bring me back to who remembers them and would even know those were their songs.

Wolverine and the X-MenApparently they have a new album coming out. Maybe that is the reason for the lawsuit against Marvel in the first place. Perhaps they are suing The comic book giant to drum up publicity for the band and the new CD.

I can’t believe a big production company like Marvel wouldn’t have gotten the proper permissions. Most likely they had several trailers prepared and accidentally sent the wrong one out to the TV stations.

I for one will not be buying any foo fighters music but I will be watching the Marvel Wolverine and the X-men cartoon. So I guess that Marvel wins this battle [at least in my case they do].

Not knowing the Foo Fighters music I would have to assume this video of the Marvel trailer for Wolverine and the X-Men has the copyright infringing music in it.

Wolverine and the X-Men Trailer

Here is the offending trailer to the new Marvel cartoon Wolverine and the Xmen [most likely we’ll never get this cartoon since these guys are being buttheads about the use of their music….as if it is hurting them any having it used here].

Stan Lee Action Figure Update

Add comment July 31st, 2007

Hasbro has come through. Now all I have to do is head over to their site and actually place an order for my very own Stan [the man] Lee Action figure. He can also turn into Spider-man and save the day.

:)

SDCC Exclusives Part Deux

Add comment July 29th, 2007

stan-lee.jpgI should really read my toy magazines when I get them. Just saw in both Toyfare and Toy Shop magazines that Hasbro has an exclusive Stan Lee action figure.

Oh will I never learn! I gots to get me one of those!

On a more positive note I heard from someone that they picked up a Captain Snoopy and Woodspock for me — YEAH!

Indy is Returning to Film and Comics

1 comment July 27th, 2007

Indiana Jones for a new generation…

Lucasfilm’s celebrated action/adventure hero, Indiana Jones, the forerunner of popular characters such as Lara Croft, will be making a triumphant return in 2008 with the yet-to-be-titled fourth installment of the Indiana Jones film series. Starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is slated for release in May 2008. Dark Horse Comics is excited to announce that it has acquired the comic book rights to the world’s most famous adventurer and will launch a new series in 2008. Fans can plunge themselves into the adventures of the fedora-wearing archaeologist well before then. In February 2008, Dark Horse Comics will publish the first of two Indiana Jones Omnibuses collecting Dark Horse’s previous entries in the saga. Then April sees the release of volume one of Indiana Jones Adventures–a digest-sized graphic novel designed for the enjoyment of young readers as well as adults. The Indiana Jones Adventures volumes and the Omnibuses will continue on a quarterly basis–including Omnibuses for the original Marvel run of Indiana Jones comics.

A comics adaptation of the film will be released simultaneously with the motion picture, followed immediately by an all-new Indiana Jones comics series.

Free Comic Book Day Not So Free

Add comment May 5th, 2007

Isn’t Free Comic Book Day about free comics? And getting the comics to the kids? Get them hooked so they buy more comics?

Then why, oh why, were the two shops I visited on Saturday May 5th only giving away one free comic then charging for any others you picked up?

Granted the one shop was asking you to donate a buck to the comic book legal defense fund, which “Exists to fight censorship and defend the first amendment rights of comic book professionals throughout the United States.” So that was a good thing to do.

But the other shop, Golden Eagle Comics in Reading, PA was out right charging for them! I think if a book has the price of FREE written right on the cover you should not have to pay for it at all. Not even $.50 a book. Wonder what the folks who run the whole Free Comic Book Day gig would think about the profiting off of their free books?

I agree that they may need to limit the books if they have a lot of traffic, but to charge for them that is just wrong!

Don’t Play With Your Food

Add comment April 15th, 2007

Especially if it is the Edible Marvel Action Figures from Dynatech. These things appear to be a good idea when you first read about them…build an action figure with candy pieces. Play with it then eat it.

Well, they did not make the candy hard enough so it melts in the package causing a gooey mess when you try to make the figure and FORGET about trying to play with it. You are lucky to be able to eat it!

Check out ScifiSlacker.com for more info and images of the sticky figures.
