Blobfest Starts Today

Add comment July 11th, 2008

It is the 50th anniversary of the film THE BLOB. Filmed in Chester County way back in 1958 and starring Steve McQueen. Each year the Colonial Theater (this would be the theater in the famous scene where everyone is running out escaping the BLOB) has a BLOBfest to celebrate their fifteen minutes of fame and this year is no exception (how could it be with it being the 50th anniversary and all).

Stop by tonight and watch the reinactment of the running of the Blob. Other activities include costume contests, a parade, a street fair, meet the REAL Blob and Tom Savini or just come to see the film on the big screen.

Comcast DVR at It Again

Add comment July 10th, 2008

Well, I was hoping to be able to actually watch all the shows I had on my crappy Motorola DVR from Comcast before it finally died, but it does not look like I will be able to unless I do it quick.

I got home tonight and it was doing that same lovely trick of going to a black screen after I pause or try to rewind. I had to do a hard reboot again, which thankfully worked again this time, but for how long?

Basically, my hard drive is slowly going bad and I have to get a new box from Comcast. Shame they have not come up with the technology to transfer the saved content to a new hard drive or letting us attached an external hard drive to expand the memory. Oh, TIVO you are starting to look good even at the additional costs.

Marvel-ous Cartoons Are A Coming

Add comment June 27th, 2008

Marvel’s Wolverine and the X-men will come to TV in 2009 thanks to NickToons. But that’s not all that’s a coming. We will also get Ironman: The animated series!

Each will offer up 26 half hour episodes and give us all a reason to set our Tivos.

Check out the new trailer for Wolverine and The X-men (Marvel must have cleared up their little spat with the Foo Fighters).  :)

But wait you also get…

Another animated feature film on DVD this fall. NEXT AVENGERS: HEROES OF TOMORROW. That makes five.

Justice League A New Frontier DVD

Add comment May 16th, 2008

Justice League A New FrontierJustice League A New Frontier is a very entertaining animated film based on the graphic novel by the same name from Darwyn Cooke. The League is up against The Centre an evil of biblical proportions. Learn the origins of Martian Man Hunter and Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern. Set around he same time as the McCarthy era. Can the Justice League unite and save the world?

Animation is very good not overly anime-influenced like most animation these days. Voices are all very fitting with only one exception, the voice of Batman. Jeremy Sisto does the voice while I liked him in Six Feet Under his voice for a cartoon sounds more like a villain that of the Batman. All our other heroes had nice clear, crisp voices, but Bat’s was gravelly and sinister. Yes, he is the Dark Knight, but Sisto’s voice might have been too dark.

Lucy Lawless made a nice Amazon (once again) playing a Wonder Woman with a slightly twisted sense of justice.

Additional Cast: Phil Morris, Neil Patrick Harris, Lucy Lawless, Miguel Ferrer, David Boreanaz

Fontier(s) Will Scare Your Bloody Pants Off

Add comment May 15th, 2008

Frontier(s) is a horror film coming out of France (seems like all of the really good scary films these days are foreign). I am telling you just the trailer will scare the pants off of you. If you like Hostel (the first film not the sequel) or SAW (any of them) you are bound to like Frontier(s).

This is the only horror movie from Horrorfest 2007 that was too disgusting and horrible for mainstream theaters. However, even though it is unrated and bloody disgusting Frontier(s) did make it to a few select theaters this past May 9th. I see it is still running in Philadelphia so maybe I will get the chance to see it on the big screen although the unrated, uncut DVD hit streets May 13th.

Lionsgate films sure know how to get our adrenalin pumping.

What Are You Watching?

Add comment May 6th, 2008

Fellow blogger AlyCat posted a question asking what movies you watched over and over while growing up that wore out your VCR. Good question. Unfortunately, being a child of the seventies we did not have a VCR. In fact we did not have a VCR until I was almost out of High School and then it was because I bought it! It loaded VHS tapes in the front like the VCRs of today instead of a pop up top like some of the older styles. I’ll bet not too many of you out there remember those. Don’t get me wrong mine wasn’t overly modern as it still had a wired remote.

So my list of watched and rewatched movies while growing up is short as it was really only the films that were aired every year on regular TV like Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, etc. Once I got the VCR my true tastes in films came out. I repeatedly watch horror and sci-fi movies like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Aliens, Ghost Busters, Star Wars, ET, etc.

Now that I have onDemand and a DVR I find myself with repeated viewings of even more. Most recently I am stuck in a V for Vendetta phase.

What movies do you watch over and over?

Four Minutes with Rosie

Add comment April 29th, 2008

Some how I wound up on Rosie O’Donnell’s website last night which reminded me about her blog. Why reminded me? For some unknown reason I was watching some celebrity expose (I never watch biographies let alone tabloid TV so I am not quite sure why I was watching that show), any who, she said something about how a news show or magazine (not sure which) had quoted her from her blog. Well the quote happened to be lyrics from a song and not an actual quote from her. That’s what I had remembered while poking around her site.

Rosie’s Website showing Vier MinutenI was just about to click on the blog link to see if I could find anything of interest when I scrolled down the homepage and saw a little blurb about a movie I had seen a trailer for one night while watching a DVD. The movie is called Vier Minuten (or Four Minutes in English) it is a German film about a very talented and troubled piano player. The trailer floored me and I had written the name of the film down to remember it when it finally comes to DVD. That was month’s ago. The only information I can find on the web for it is the art film scene last year and the original German release in 2006. When is it coming to the USA? I really want to see this film. Of course Rosie.com while telling us it is a good film does not say how or where we can see it. In fact when you click on the ‘more’ link it only takes you to another listing of films and Vier Minuten is not even listed! Rosie help a girl out and tell me how to find this film. I realize that being a star you most likely were sent a screener (I  get them too for my ScifiSlacker.com site, but since this is not a sci-fi film I can’t see them sending me one). I just need details when or if this will be available.

Andy’s Film World has a great write up on Vier Minuten and also posts the YouTube video trailer for the film. Head on over and check it out.

Any one with info on Vier Minuten / Four Minutes coming to DVD or where I can see this film please post it here in the comments. Thanks!

Love That Bunny

1 comment March 5th, 2008

In honor of Easter being so early this year [it is the earliest Easter in 90 years] I am sharing my love of a certain cartoon bunny rabbit that I grew up watching and loving — Bugs Bunny. Here is my top ten list of the bestest Bugs cartoons.

TOP TEN BUGS BUNNY CARTOONS
1. Water Water Every Hare [An interesting monster with an interesting hairdo.]
2. What’s Opera Doc? [Kill the wabbit…]
3. Falling Hare [Gremlins]
4. Easter Yeggs [I wanna easter egg! You broke my little arm!]
5. Bugs and Thugs [You might rabbit. You might.]
6. Haredevil Hare [Bugs goes to the moon and meets Marvin the Martian.]
7. Duck, Rabbit, Duck [Duck Season! Rabbit Season!]
8. Bunny Hugged [The CRUSHER!]
9. The Big Snooze [The rabbits are coming hooray, hooray.]
10. Broomstick Bunny [Witch Hazel and her amazing hair pins.]

Not familiar with them? Then you had better get yourself the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volumes 1 through 5 and get to watching.

Cool In Car Camera

2 comments February 12th, 2008

With all the horrible drivers out there and the fact that almost everyone I know has been in some kind of accident or fender bender in the past couple of months this little device might be a pretty good idea.

car cameraIt is a combo camera, dvr, LCD screen and rear view mirror. It records all the action in fromt of you catching all the evidence if an accident or aggressive drive happens your way. Check out the car camera for more info or to buy this cool device.

V for Vendetta

Add comment January 14th, 2008

Watching V for Vendetta again. Agent Smith from The Matrix (you know him as Hugo Weaving) makes a great masked vigilante known only as V. Man he has a very distinct voice. Natalie Portman gives an excellent performance and she doesn’t look half bad with a baldhead. (Unfortunately for this film Britney Spears had to have her break down causing me to see her instead of Ms. Portman during that scene in the film.)

This film has a strong message about intolerance and of the government taking away our rights and freedoms. Freedoms we often take for granted. If we don’t want a bleak future like the ones the films V for Vendetta and 1984 portray we must take the necessary actions to avoid them now. With 2008 being an election year now is the time to ensure we continue to enjoy the freedoms we do have and to make sure we extend those same freedoms to all human beings no matter their gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. Here’s hoping we make the right choice for all our futures.
