V for Vendetta

Add comment January 14th, 2008

Watching V for Vendetta again. Agent Smith from The Matrix (you know him as Hugo Weaving) makes a great masked vigilante known only as V. Man he has a very distinct voice. Natalie Portman gives an excellent performance and she doesn’t look half bad with a baldhead. (Unfortunately for this film Britney Spears had to have her break down causing me to see her instead of Ms. Portman during that scene in the film.)

This film has a strong message about intolerance and of the government taking away our rights and freedoms. Freedoms we often take for granted. If we don’t want a bleak future like the ones the films V for Vendetta and 1984 portray we must take the necessary actions to avoid them now. With 2008 being an election year now is the time to ensure we continue to enjoy the freedoms we do have and to make sure we extend those same freedoms to all human beings no matter their gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. Here’s hoping we make the right choice for all our futures.

Rata2y Reviewy [Ratatouille Not a Kids Cartoon]

Add comment November 28th, 2007

I just finished watching Ratatouille this morning and I have to say it was not too bad. It is not a kids cartoon as it has no real hook to keep a child’s attention. Heck, I know several adults who lost interest in the film half way through it.

The story is cute and has a lesson to be learned in the last five minutes thanks to the food critic Ego on how we as a society like to write and read criticisms [perhaps this is why my little blog here gets so many hits].

Just don’t expect your kids to want to sit through this film more than once and then maybe not even that first time. This one is a rental not a purchase.

Wal-Mart Still Sucks

Add comment November 23rd, 2007

I noticed that Wal-mart was having several Black Friday sales. I have no intention of ever going into the Elverson, PA Walmart again, but I was curious about whether they had the same sales the company was advertising all over the place.

I really doubt it. They are continuing to sell their new release DVDs at $16.88 instead of the $14.96 all the area Wal-marts have the films at. But in any case they are at least offer the ignorant people in the area a slight discount. And $16.88 is better than the full price of $19.96, no?

The only sale I was even interested in was for tomorrow. Saturday they are advertising 80 gig Playstation 3s for only $499. I do not have confirmation on this but an employee tells me that Elevrson will not have any of the PS3s in stock for the sale. Therefore they do not have to honor the national sale.

Nowhere in Wally worlds advertisements does it say pricing varies or in participating stores only, like when Burger King runs an ad.

I think a big corporation should be uniform throughout all their stores. Don’t you? Therefore I have decided to send a small message. Any DVD I still have that has not been open and was purchased at Wal-mart is going back. I have already returned my Avatar the Last Airbender DVD and will be returning Spider-man 3 as well. So if you still have some sitting around, help me make a stand and return it and let them know why when you do. Thanks.

Now Wal-Mart Has Gone and Done It! New Releases No Longer on Sale!

Add comment November 7th, 2007

For the past two weeks Walmart has really, really pissed me off. I stopped by on Tuesday the October 31st to pick up a copy of Spider-man 3. That was the release date and they advertise the newest releases at unbeatable prices or something like that. But it is a big ole lie. I grabbed Spidey off the shelf and headed to the check out. Got there and it rang up at full price! It is always on sale on release week. So I left the DVD at the checkout assuming they forgot to mark it down because they were too busy with their Halloween parade the store was having that night. What a nightmare!

So I called around [there are three other Wal-marts and a Target in the area]. It was on sale every where except that one Wal-mart. So I went the next night and got it for the $14.99 I was expecting to get it for the night before.

I made the mistake of heading to the same Wal-mart the next week for the November 6th release of Ratatouille. And once again this particular Wal-Mart did not have the new releases on sale any longer. WTF? I had my niece with my and I was going to buy two. I asked her if she minded waiting and I would buy them somewhere else on sale. Heck ten bucks is ten bucks. She said it was okay so we left the DVDs sit on the shelf. But this time [as they weren’t doing anything] I asked whether or not the new releases were on sale any more. He said, “Corporate decided they did not have to have them on sale any more since they don’t have any local competition.” Hello! There is a blockbuster next door and 3 more Wal-marts within twenty minutes of the place. Doesn’t this almost smack of price gouging when every other store including other Wal-marts offer a discount the first week a movie is released? Just because there is not another store within 5 minutes of them does not mean they should gouge us for the extra ten dollars on an item being sold in other Walmart stores at a discounted price.

Well I know I will not be buying my DVDs from that particular Wal-mart any more. Most likely I won’t even bother stopping there for anything any longer. I hope they will see a drastic drop in new release sales [I am sure they probably already did]. Guess I will head to Target next week for the release of Shrek 3!
