One of my favorite 80s bands is out touring this summer. If you can catch The Go-Go’s in a town near you do it (tour is actually half over). Saw them last year and I am just as excited to see them this year! Last year they were with the Psychedelic Furs this year they are with Scandal, The Motels, Naked Eyes and Cutting Crew. It will be like listening to a mix tape.

Speaking of mix tapes…back in the day K-Tel was the king of mix tapes. I picked up a cassette at K-Mart, seems like a million years ago now, called The Beat. I loved that tape. I don’t remember thinking all the songs were my favorites but I like most of them if not all of them and played the tape until it started sounding all weird and worn out. I am pretty sure I still have that tape around here somewhere even though it doesn’t sound right any more.

Here is the sound list:

  • A Flock Of Seagulls – I Ran (So Far Away)
  • Kim Wilde – Kids In America
  • Haircut One Hundred – Love Plus One
  • Sparks – I Predict
  • Split Enz – I Got You
  • Graham Parker – You Hit The Spot
  • The Waitresses – I Know What Boys Like
  • Go-Go’s – We Got The Beat
  • Bow Wow Wow – I Want Candy
  • Duran Duran – Girls On Film
  • Thompson Twins – In The Name Of Love
  • Depeche Mode – Dreaming Of Me
  • Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark – Joan Of Arc
  • Billy Idol – Hot In The City

Need to dig through the old MP3s and get a playlist setup to mimic this blast from my past.

Being a child of the 80s the Go-Go’s are a big deal to me. They were one of the first bands I really liked and I still like their music even if it isn’t like all the other dark, gloomy, heavy stuff I usually listen too. The Go-Go’s will remain a favorite band of mine. That being said, it is with extreme pleasure (and a little bit of jealousy as I would like to keep this) that get to give away this autographed CD insert from the Go-Go’s signed by all five band members. This was given to me by band member Jane Wiedlin (you can also win signed copies of her Lady Robotika comic over at

She donated these great prizes to help us raise money for One By One Cat Rescue during SCIFIpawty (a virtual science fiction convention my cat Boris holds every year).

So how do you go about entering our contest? Just answer the trivia question in the comments below and you are entered into our random drawing for this super awesome prize.

Want more chances to win? Donate to our charity using the same email address as the used to answer the question below and you’ll get another entry for every $5 you donate.

Answer this Question in the comments: Where was Jane on March 11th to 13th? (hint)

Fine Print: No purchase necessary, void where prohibited, odds of winning depends on number of entries. One entry per person, household, email address, etc. Contest ends 4/5/11.

I have been scouring the web today looking for techno versions of the star trek theme. Unfortunately for me I already have all the good ones. Everything else can be found on with a poorly slapped together video montage to go along with it and you can’t easily extract the audio out of these so why bother.

I do have quite a collection of trek themed songs in all genres. Which I had shared over at quite a while ago. All I have to do now is update the list for you all (hope to do that soon in another post).

Robert Hazard, 59, the Philadelphia-bred rock troubadour who wrote the pop anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” died unexpectedly Tuesday night after surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Robert Hazard and the Heroes, born out of the late-1970s punk movement, were a fixture on the local Philly bar scene through the mid-1980s.

One night in a motel in Delaware, Mr. Hazard sat in a bathtub and in 15 minutes wrote “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” a sprightly pop tune covered in 1983 by Cyndi Lauper. Labeled a feminist anthem, it shot to No. 1. Miley Cyrus’ remake is included on her new album, Breakout.

I just got the WALL-E soundtrack, well actually score, the other day.

WALL-E sound track is pretty good. I have always been a fan of musical scores while I work. The lack of lyrics is less distracting for me. Listening to this music, which is some times, interrupted by robo-speak and sound effects has really gotten me hyped up to see the film, I could live without the two songs from Hello Dolly, but perhaps once I see the film their inclusion on the sound track might make sense.

Disney will be rocking the boardwalk in Jersey this summer when the Radio Disney concert hit Wildwood. Guess what? These concerts featuring stars like Raven Symone (That’s So Raven), Mitchel Musso (Hannah Montana) and others will be coming to Morey’s Piers this July.

There will be a free concert every Monday for three weeks ending in a spectacular finale being held at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Tickets for the Wildwood events finale with Raven Symone on July 26th will be on sale through Ticketmaster, the box office and on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing pier during the concerts on July 7, 14, 21.

The free Radio Disney concerts will take place next to the giant ferris wheel on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing pier. Those shows are scheduled for 1pm and 4pm. Parents love that these concerts are free and kids love the Disney stars. It is a match made in heaven (okay, maybe not heaven, just the Disney PR offices).

Here is a list of the free concerts for interested parties:

  • July 7 – A Cursive Memory
  • July 14 – Jordan Pruitt
  • July 21 – Drew Seeley

Morey’s Pier is the place to be this summer for family fun.

Hey, the fun doesn’t stop after the concerts are over. Morey’s Piers is offering season finale ticket holds special deals like ten bucks off admission Morey’s Piers Beachfront new jersey water park or ten dollars off a wrist band good for all three of Morey’s piers, but the best deal is fifteen dollars off the Splash and Ride combo ticket. Looking for answers to some questions brought up by my friend about the ATT Go Phone commercial featuring Meat Loaf and got no where with Yahoo Answers. Not that it was my first choice. [This is a good example of how user supplied content can go awry.]

Yahoo Answers, what’s the point? I assume they set this up to give people actual answers to their questions, but thus far I have not found anything good or accurate about the site. It is nothing more than a forum. My suggestion to people it to head to or search on Wikipedia, but still take your answers you get with a grain of salt. But for Yahoo Answers take those with an entire shaker of salt. Because the questions are ill formed and the answers are incomplete. You’ll find better answers by looking elsewhere.

Example: Googled Meat Loaf Go Phone Commercial [I wanted to know who was in the commercial with him]. I feel Google is at fault here too for ranking this idiotic site so high. The third result was for Yahoo Answers to this question:

“If you can remember 8 tracks, or the “Time Warp” then you probably won’t know Meat Loaf. Is that Ellen Foley (Paradise by the Dashboard Lights) with him in the commercial? I know Meat has two daughters, but does he have a son?”

The question was marked resolved with this answer:

“The wife in the commercial is 80’s pop star Tiffany.”

This only partly answers the question as Meat Loaf only has two daughters and no sons. To completely answer the question they could have told us who the actor playing the son is as well.

My problem with this whole system is with the incorrect and incomplete answers but sometimes it lies in the questions too. Like this question. I remember 8 tracks and the Time Warp and I certainly do know who Meat Loaf is. How could anyone who knows the Time Warp NOT know who Meat Loaf is? EDDIE!

Oh, I found the answer to who is the son in the commercial. According to Best Week Ever he is played by Adam Cagley.

Tiffany is getting to be quite the guest shot star herself. She was recently in the Robin Sparkles video on the TV show How I Met Your Mother.

What is it with me and getting Star Trek stuff in the mail? Or is it just anything via mail order these days?

I just received my copy of Brent Spiners new CD Dreamland. Well actually I just received my second copy of this disc. My first one came to me a bit mangled and the plastic part that holds the CD was broken and the disk was scratched.

Since I paid extra to get a signed copy and being the big ole Star Trek collecting geek that I am I had to get another one since the first one was no where near mint.

I have not had time to listen to the CD yet. I am too busy listening to the Philip Pullman books in the His Dark Materials series. Already finished The Golden Compass and I am about half way through the second in the series, The Subtle Knife. Once I complete these I will through Brent Spiner’s Dreamland into the MP3 player and give her a listen. I have a feeling I will like it as I liked what I heard before I bought it.

While I am on the topic of Brent Spiner, I have been hearing rumors and questions from people wondering if he is gay. Quite honestly I would have to say no. The ole gaydar has been ringing for years with him but I think it is a false positive. Hey people seem to think Wil Wheaton is gay too, but he is married, I think. I never got that from him either. Most likely people are just reading their geekiness as homosexuality, but I could be wrong all around. Wouldn’t be the first time you know. As far as I know the only out gay member of any star trek cast is George Takei. Again, this does not mean there aren’t others.

The foo fighters are suing Marvel Comics for using one or two of their Songs in a promo for the new X-men cartoon.

I for one think it is ridiculous. How can they claim damages when no one even remembers who the foo fighters are?

Heck, I would think they should be happy with the free publicity and exposure. Although that does bring me back to who remembers them and would even know those were their songs.

Wolverine and the X-MenApparently they have a new album coming out. Maybe that is the reason for the lawsuit against Marvel in the first place. Perhaps they are suing The comic book giant to drum up publicity for the band and the new CD.

I can’t believe a big production company like Marvel wouldn’t have gotten the proper permissions. Most likely they had several trailers prepared and accidentally sent the wrong one out to the TV stations.

I for one will not be buying any foo fighters music but I will be watching the Marvel Wolverine and the X-men cartoon. So I guess that Marvel wins this battle [at least in my case they do].

Not knowing the Foo Fighters music I would have to assume this video of the Marvel trailer for Wolverine and the X-Men has the copyright infringing music in it.
