I talked about my Lego trains in my post yesterday, but I did not share them with you. While I was setting up the tree and trains I had a little help as you’ll see by this photo. Remember the scene in Harry Potter where Hogwarts was attacked by the giant dragon? Me either but that’s the game we were playing.

As you can see Boris decided to sit his little butt down right in the middle of the tracks and proclaim himself official Lego conductor. We both agree the 9v electric trains are sooooo much better than their new remote control trains.

When he was done playing with the trains (while they were running he was outside the tracks carefully watching as they went by him), he helped with the tree.

Okay, so maybe helped is not the right word to use. In any case we had fun getting the tree up. What more could one ask for?

I Wasn’t Gonna Eat It

I don’t think this bad boy was only gonna taste it. He is known for chewing on wires. I had to pull up those PS2 cables before he got a chance to rip into them. Boris thinks anything and everything is a cat toy!

Majel Barrett Roddenberry Joins Gene in the Final Frontier

Roddenberry.com posted this morning that Majel had passed away.

“Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away this morning, December 18, 2008, at 12:27 AM in her Bel Air home. She died peacefully, in her sleep, and was surrounded by family and loved ones.

“My mother truly acknowledged and appreciated the fact that Star Trek fans played a vital role in keeping the Roddenberry dream alive for the past 42 years. It was her love for the fans, and their love in return, that kept her going for so long after my father passed away.” - Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, Jr.”

They ask that in lieu of flowers or gifts that you send donations to two charities to share in Majel’s love for animals. Here are the two charities they posted.

Majel will be sadly missed, but she lives on in the hearts of all us Trekkers. According to E Online we will still get to hear her as the voice of the computer in the new Star Trek movie.

Save a Dog or Cat

Besides Halloween October can be a pretty busy month. It has two major Jewish holidays. It is Breast Cancer Awareness month (that’s why you are seeing all that pink out there - I’m saving my Yoplait lids, even though I should not be eating it), I believe Canadian Thanksgiving falls in this month, and it is National Adopt a Shelter Dog month. So if you are looking for a family pet, please check out your local shelters or rescues before heading to a pet store or breeder. Doing so you will be saving a life and not supporting puppy mills both at the same time. Plus most breed specific rescues out there will make sure to get you the right animal for your family. And you’ll get the piece of mind knowing that the dog has been well taken care of and socialized by some one that really loves them. I have seen these groups in action they truly do love the animals they are fostering until a new loving owner comes along. If you can’ t find a rescue locally most of these groups will do what they can to get your pet to you safely. So please check out rescues before resorting to a pet store no matter what month you are looking for a pet not just during National Adopt a Shelter Animal Month.

Walk for the Animals and the Walktoberfest

Today was the big day for the Berks Humane Society. It was their annual Walk for the Animals and Walktoberfest. This year it was held at the First Energy Stadium home of the Reading Phillies because it outgrew all its previous venues. The turn out was great and really big crowd of dogs and their walkers. I don’t have a dog, but that does not mean I don’t like them (even if I am allergic to them I still love all animals and want to do what I can to help those in need). The weather held out and was only a fine mist no rain (thank goodness for the reduced wet dog smell).

There were plenty of things to do and see besides the walk. Vendors inside selling everything from dog toys to housewares. Loads of rescues pleading their causes and tugging at heart strings! Dog lovers of all shapes and sizes were there along with the pups of varying shapes and sizes. Below are my photos (I could have taken so many more, but you’ll get the idea and maybe you can join us next year).

I want to thank everyone who helped sponsor me your donations are greatly appreciated! We raised $105 for the Humane Society. It is great to know I could be a small part of something so big.

Big Kitty - Is This Picture A Fake

I was poking around over at YouSayToo.com and I came across this post about a big pussy (of course they wanted to get all the folks with their minds in the gutter to click thu to the post). When I got there and saw this picture my immediate thought was that it had to be a faked photograph. Although I can’t seem to find the tell tale signs of a photoshopped image. But it has to be. there cannot be a kitty cat that huge. Can there? I appreciate any all feedback on this guy and if you know the owner of this big kitty please let me know!

The fat cat shown here is not the same pussy cat that the man is holding. It is just another example of a big ole kitty cat. My kitty Boris is the same type of white/tabby cat and he is big too, but not as big as these two guys. Gees! And I thought I had a big cat at nearly two feet long and 25 lbs. Heck, Boris is little compared to these two.

I think these two kitties need to get some exercise. Their people had better head over to Boris’ fav shop CatToys.com and buy some toys to get these guys moving!

Teleporter Not Working

If the film The Fly wasn’t proof enough here is another good example why a teleporter will never work. (Besides that whole scanning-you-in-one-place-rebuilding-you-in-another-then-vaporizing-the-original-you thing.)

Haunted Bird Feeder v2

My Mom just loved my original haunted bird feeder and requested one of her own. I hadn’t really thought I would ever make another one, but heck it is Mom afterall. She wanted a smaller version. Something she could sit on her window sill then she added two story. So I picked up a Pet Zone Pop-up Finch Feeder to haunt for her. Even though I knew she wasn’t going to be using it as a bird feeder I made sure to leave the window area for seed retrieval open just in case. I also added the “BEWARE OF CAT” sign I had on mine. I pretty much fashioned hers after the haunted bird feeder v1. I started when I got home from work and worked straight through until about 1:30 am.

I had this pretty nice bird feeder (it is a Colonial Bird Feeder from Pet Zone), but the one window was broken out so the bird feed would not stay in the feeder. I thought, “what do you do with a broken window”. You board it up. So I set to work. First, I repaired the window by hot gluing a piece of plastic over the open window then I dry brushed the entire house to give it a weathered look. After taht I added scuply boards and other creepy decorations. Viola, a haunted bird feeder! Not sure yet if I will be using it as a bird feeder or if I will just use it as a decoration. All in all this project took me about two weeks to complete. (kind of explains where I have been doesn’t it?)

Hello Kitty

Fellow cat lover over at Pantherkut.com has loads of interesting stuff on his site. The information ranges from house cat tips to big cat classifications. If it is about felines PanthurKut will eventually hit upon it.

But I have to admit that my guilty please over at PanthurKut is the fat cats section. One of the kitties over there looks a lot like my big fat boy (who I call moose all the time because he is so big). Mind you my cat is not near that big but if he keeps eating like he does he will get to be that big. Maybe I will print out the picture and hang it over his food bowl for a while.
