Not too sure how happy this year will be but since 2008 ended so badly 2009 should be better. I hope.

Here’s wishing everyone else a great new year.

I am sitting here watching Bugs Bunny and trying to remember better times.

So far I got to see some of my favorites like the little red riding hood screaming “TO HAVE”, the interesting monster with the interesting hairdo and little Ralph Philips and his imagination. I’ll have to dig out my Looney Tunes DVDs again.

We got to the church early, but Mom’s oldest sister had already beat us there. I asked the service director to take photos of the flowers but could not bring myself to take them or to have him take any of Mom. (I know this is odd coming from someone, whose family, Dad’s side, does this and who also collects these photos. I just could not think about looking at those photos ever again. Besides I have a great photo of Mom and Dad together from two weeks before that I will also keep near by.)

The church was still decorated for Christmas but she loved Christmas all her life so it was fitting. The flowers were beautiful. The small church filled up quickly. I apologize to everyone that came I was a bit numb. We do appreciate your coming and all of your kind words. I just can’t seem to remember them all. The one that sticks out the most is my cousins little boy (he’s five) giving her a Doc Hudson car, they had a little joke between them where my Mom said she was Lightning McQueen and he said he was and she was Doc Hudson (cause she was an old guy). Mom continued to laugh about that for the past few years since he said it. He also said the other day when he was told Kaffy died, that “she was and angel now and that’s the best.” So true.

So many people came to celebrate Mom’s life and to share their sympathy with us. At one point I glanced out the window and saw people lined up outside the church in the cold to come in and see us. So many people from Dad’s work came, Mom’s lifetime of friends and people she had touched had come. My best friends came and all the people in my office. I was overwhelmed by it all.

The service was very touching. Her granddaughters both took part. The oldest read a poem about grandmothers that was so fitting and the youngest played one of Mom’s favorite hymns. The pastors both knew my parents and knew what to say. That fact alone made the service more meaningful than having someone just repeating what we told them in an interview the night before. It was so touching to have the minister get choked up during the service because he truly cared for the person he was there to speak about.

The graveside service was brief as it was so cold and windy. We had a bagpipe player playing while we came to the grave and she played Amazing Grace as we left.

This has been one of the hardest and saddest days of my life and I made it through it, mostly.

Tonight’s Big Bang Theory wasn’t really an exceptional episode, but it had its moments. The best of those was at the end of the episode when Penny finally gives Sheldon (who I believe is quickly becoming the show favorite — I know he’s my favorite) an Xmas gift. (You will have to watch the episode to hear Sheldon’s holiday story).

Penny’s gift to Sheldon was a napkin. Not just any napkin. It was Leonard Nimoy’s napkin and not only did it have his signature on it, but he had used it. Therefore it had Leonard Nimoy’s DNA on it. Sheldon was so excited he was shaking. He even went so far as to hug Penny!

I am sitting here working on my posts watching Batman: Returns and Batman and Catwoman were in the middle of a big fight scene and my thoughts immediately go to Big Bang Theory. First I said something about counting catwomen and then I lower my voice and say “I’m Batman”. If you haven’t been watching Big bang Theory you might get either one of those jokes. They are both from the series premiere (I think it was three weeks ago). Funny stuff.

Sheldon and Leonard were talking about being a superhero as they were walking up the stairs and Sheldon said he could never be the Green Lantern without some one coming to him from the planet Oa and giving him a power ring but with enough start up capital and a research facility he could be Batman. Leonard just looks at him asking “You could be Batman?” Then Sheldon lowers his voice and says “I’m Batman. See?”

When we first saw this we almost died laughing. Especially since that was our biggest complaint about Batman: The Dark Knight.

Big Bang TheoryIn the season opener of Big Bang Theory we find Sheldon staying over at Howard’s because he cannot keep a secret Penny told him from Leonard. Once settled in bed Sheldon begins to ramble about Catwoman due to the Halle Berry Poster over Howard’s bed.

Here’s their conversation. After this I will give my list of favorite Catwomen.

Halle Berry as CatwomanSheldon: That poster of Halle Berry is a little unnerving.

Howard: So don’t look at it.

Sheldon: She’s like my fourth favorite Catwoman.

Howard: No Kidding.

Michelle Pfeiffer CatwomanSheldon: Yeah, Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eartha Kitt and then her.

Howard: What about Lee Meriweather?

Sheldon: Oh, I forgot about Lee Meriweather.

Howard: Well I’m glad that is settled.

Lee Meriweather as CatwomanSheldon: That makes Halle Berry my fifth favorite Catwoman. It’s Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriweather”

Howard: Please I’m begging you go to sleep.

Sheldon: I’m trying. I’m counting Catwomen.

Julie Newmar as catwomanSheldon: She did make a fine mutant in the X-Men movies, though.

Howard: Oh for God sake.

Sheldon: She’s not my favorite of the X-Men though. In order that would be wolverine, Cyclops — wait I forgot Professor X. Professor X, Wolverine, Cyclops, Iceman, then Storm, Angel, the Beast — No wait Nightcrawler. Professor X, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Cyclos, Iceman, then Storm, Angel, the Beast.

Eartha Kitt as CatwomanI have to disagree with Sheldon a little on the order of Catwomen.

My favorite Catwoman is Michelle Pfeiffer, then Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Halle Berry, Lee Meriweather. (And we’ll throw Adrienne Barbeau in there as well. She played Catwoman in Batman the Animated Series).

I was very sad to see that Boston Legal will be ending after this season. This was the only TV series I was really waiting for all summer. Bummer.

Guess I will have to enjoy Denny Crane as much as possible this season while I can. The premiere wasn’t all that special, but it was a good show none-the-less. Best thing about it was Denny’s worrying about his junk not working.

Worst Week was the worst series premiere so far. I think it just might keep that title too. It was actually painful to watch. It was very predictable and not in the least bit funny. The characters weren’t the least bit interesting or compelling. At least CBS thought ahead and stuck this at the end of a good line up instead of in the middle of it. Otherwise it would have ruined my TV viewing for the evening. As it was I switched over to ABC with 15 minutes left in the episode to sit through the end of Dancing With The Stars (another pointless TV series, but one that is still better than Worst Week) so I was ready for the Boston Legal season premiere. I hope that Worst Week gets yank soon and they stick something better at the end of the Monday comedy line because that show was anything but funny.

I am not really the Jodi Foster fan in the family, I just get pulled along for the ride, so to speak. While I do enjoy most of her films, I am not ga-ga over her like some people I know. So then, why am I writing about her today?

Sometimes one of the keyword searches that lands a person on my site strikes a chord with me and I feel compelled to write about it. The search that is getting me to write about Jodi Foster today had someone searching for “Jodi Foster watches Buffy”.

I might not know for sure if she does indeed watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I do know from a spot on one of the late night talk shows (I think Jay Leno on the Tonight Show) that she does play guitar hero with her kids.

The Vulcan in me says, that logic dictates if she is cool enough to play guitar hero she is most likely cool enough to watch Buffy as well. Like I said I have no proof (never read it or heard it in an interview), but if you do please send it on over and I will post it here for those who need to know such things. 🙂

A friend of mine turned me onto the TV series The Middleman. Of course like everything in my life I am a day late and a dollar short. I caught only three (actual 2 and 2/3s) episodes and now it is over. It was on ABC family and what I have seen of it its a fun and quirky little spy-fi show with loads of pop culture references thrown in (you know that’s one of the main reason I loved Mr. Meaty so much — wonder what has happened to that fun puppet show — but I digress). Many, if not all, of the episodes can be watched on the ABC Family website. So why not check them out.

Here’s a little glimpse at the Star Trek reference in the season finale on Monday night…

Wendy: You’re telling me that you, Pip, a priest, are willing to risk your life for me?

Pip: We’re all children of the lord.

Wendy: I’m in the Mirror Universe.

Pip: I’m sorry, the mirror universe?

Wendy: The parallel universe where everyone that is good is evil and evil is good. It’s like that episode of Star Trek where Spock had a goatee and Chekov tried…

Pip: Star Trek. You mean the sci-fi series from the sixties starring the great George Takei.

Wendy: It is an evil universe.

And later when the alternate universe Wendy flashes her ID it is very similar to the Mirror Universe’s shirt logos.

Watching Bones tonight. It is the season premiere. Aren’t season premieres supposed to be something spectacular or at the very least be a little better than a regular episode? You know to suck you in and get you hooked so you stick around for the rest of the season. They’re not supposed to suck all together are they?

Thus far I don’t see why we needed to have a two-hour episode. It feels like they tried too hard to stretch this to meet that 2-hour mark. Even though this one wasn’t so hot I will be back to watch it again next week.

Batman Gotham Knight DVDBatman: Gotham Knight is out on DVD now. It is the latest animated feature from
DC Comics. It is actually six mini movies all done (or should I so over done) in the anime / mango style. Just because anime is getting more popular doesn’t mean every thing needs to be produced in that style let alone in six different variations of the style. I don’t think any of the stories stands up on their own and they certainly don’t move smoothly from one story to the next. Over all I say avoid this or simply rent it or get it on demand like I did.

The best thing about this is that they got Kevin Conroy to voice the bat. He is the voice of Batman in almost all the animated versions to appear on TV. So if they could get him for this production why not use him in the Justice League animated film earlier this year?

A few years ago I first wrote about the possibility of an animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer over at ScifiSlacker.com and much like the ill-fated animated Star Trek they teased me with as well was never to be.

BtVS AnimatedAfter fours year one gives up hope that anything will ever happen. The one day you stumble on a tiny little blip in the TV Guide telling you that just this month someone leaked the 3 minute pilot for the BtVS animated series and your little heart starts a pumping. Hell, with the success of the BtVS Season 8 comics (gosh those are good) maybe they could see fit to bring about this once shelved project and breath life back into the Vampire Slayer franchise on the small screen.

The clip is very nicely done and done in a style of animation that I really like similar to the Batman The Animated Series cartoon. Very cool (if this does ever come into being I hope they stick with this style and don’t screw it up by making it pseudo anime).

Now this little pilot does have all our favorite characters doing their own voices except Sarah Michelle Gellar who apparently is too good to go back to doing anything Buffy related (what has she done lately besides the voice of Bufy on Robot Chicken?), but the girl doing Buffy’s voice (Giselle Loren) is most excellent and you would never even miss that other actress (what’s-her-face).

So to read more about Buffy the Vampire Slayer the Animated series or sign the petition to bring it on (maybe a DVD movie like the resurrection of Futurama) head over to BuffyAnimated.com. Watch and enjoy while you can (I am sure this will be yanked from YouTube at some point).
