Steampunk Star Wars Figures

Add comment May 11th, 2008 03:50am whataslacker

I have always been a fan of the folks who can make custom action figures especially when they are such high quality as those over at Sillof’s Workshop.

But these are no ordinary custom figures. What do I mean by ordinary? I guess to clarify; I would say in this case ordinary means creating figures of existing characters not already in action figure form.

So why are Sillof’s figures so extraordinary? Well these figures are of existing figures and/or characters but they are totally re-imagined. Below you will see what I mean with the steampunk Star Wars figures, which are just stunning in design and workmanship. But don’t just take my word for it head to Sillof.com to see more detailed pictures and to read a little about the inspiration behind each figure. While you are there be sure to take a look at the Victorian Avengers and Gaslight Justice League figures they’re amazing.

Calling All Over the World

Add comment May 9th, 2008 07:52pm whataslacker

It’s a small world after all and with technology it is getting even smaller. It is amazing to think we can pick up a phone and speak to someone half way around the world. I never gave international calling much thought, but I live in an area with a high immigrant population, which makes me wonder sometimes how big their phone bills must be. You move away from your family and friends to make a better life for yourself, but you still want to keep in touch and hear their voices. Luckily there are international calling cards, which can be a fraction of what you phone service would charge you.

With GetMeCallingCards.com you can get low rates on all your international calls like Mexico calling cards that let you call from the USA for only a penny a minute.

Funny Thing About Poop

iPoop the Proud Doggy Doo MagnetSeems like I have been spending a lot of time talking about poop the last couple of days. What with the post about my neighbor’s dog and the Poop-Freeze I stumbled across on the web. Now I found something that is funny because it is meant to be funny not just funny because it is stupid.

DogToys.com is offering a very humorous magnet that features a dog silhouette wearing what looks like an iPod like in the commercials, but instead it says iPoop on it. Oh boy, do we know you poop you little doggy you.

Give Your Employees Something They Really Want — Time Away From Work

1 comment May 9th, 2008 07:02pm whataslacker

Employers are looking for ways to reward good work other than a monetary bonus. While many of us certainly don’t mind the money it can seem like a thoughtless gesture to some. There are many alternative ways to reward your employees one of the more exciting of the different corporate incentives is travel rewards from Bellwether Rewards.

The thought of getting away from it all could certainly motivate even the most lethargic of employees to improve their performance. There is no better way to put a spark back into an employee than the promise of time away from work, especially when they don’t have to pay for the vacation. Heck, I’d even do a better job if I were told there was a real reward in it for me.

So reward your employees by telling them to go away (by using their earned travel reward from Bellwether).

I Loves Me My Mini Figures

Add comment May 9th, 2008 06:34pm whataslacker

I love miniatures. Anything in a small scale is great to me. I have been fascinated be mini stuff since I was a kid. Maybe that’s why I like LEGO so much, the mini figures that come with each set.

Most recently I was very excited to hear Playmates toys would be getting the license to make the action figures for the new Star Trek movie. Even more excited when I heard that one of their new figures would be in a 3” scale. Yeah! I saw they have a small 2” line of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and just introduced new small-scale play sets for these mini figures too. So perhaps in this day of the mini block figures (Kubrick and Minimates have been all the rage for the last few years) I am not the only one who likes small things.

Little Indy FiguresHasbro brought us the mini 2” Galactic Heroes in their Star Wars line a few years ago too. While these are geared more for the younger kids they are still a must for me. Then they gave us Marvel heroes and now Indiana Jones. I picked up three of these sets already and since they have a mail-away exclusive figure I will be getting at least three more as well. Since I have these little guys stuck to my car’s dash with Velcro I can swap they out every once in awhile. So the more the merrier!

Easy to Find Affordable Health Insurance

Add comment May 9th, 2008 06:24pm whataslacker

No one should be without health insurance but if your job does not offer health insurance or you are only working part time what are you supposed to do? The cost of healthcare is too high to be without insurance, but the high cost of individual plans keeps people from being insured.

Thank goodness there are places like USA-HealthInsurance.com who can offer affordable health insurance Arizona plans include Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, Coventry, and Blue Cross Blue Shield among others.

Whether you are a small business owner looking for an affordable service to offer your employees or an individual who is self employed you may be able to find just what you need at a price you can afford so you, your family or your employees don’t have to worry about coverage any more.

SteamPunk Makes Headlines

Add comment May 9th, 2008 12:01am whataslacker

I have been on a bit of a Steampunk kick of late and in had manifested itself in one of my recent posts about a way cool Victorian home turned museum in Texas. Prior to that my interest had been merely in stumbling on some really cool sites of people who are really into Steampunk and some of the sub genres like dieselpunk.

Over the course of the next few weeks I tend to feature some of the best of these Steampunk aficionados. Until that time NY Times has beat me to it with this article…

Steampunk Moves Between 2 Worlds
New York Times 5/8/08 By RUTH LA FERLA

…It is also the vision of steampunk, a subculture that is the aesthetic expression of a time-traveling fantasy world, one that embraces music, film, design and now fashion, all inspired by the extravagantly inventive age of dirigibles and steam locomotives, brass diving bells and jar-shaped protosubmarines. First appearing in the late 1980s and early ’90s, steampunk has picked up momentum in recent months, making a transition from what used to be mainly a literary taste to a Web-propagated way of life.

To some, “steampunk” is a catchall term, a concept in search of a visual identity. “To me, it’s essentially the intersection of technology and romance,” said Jake von Slatt, a designer in Boston and the proprietor of the Steampunk Workshop (steampunkworkshop.com), where he exhibits such curiosities as a computer furnished with a brass-frame monitor and vintage typewriter keys.

That definition is loose enough to accommodate a stew of influences, including the streamlined retro-futurism of Flash Gordon and Japanese animation with its goggle-wearing hackers, the postapocalyptic scavenger style of “Mad Max,” and vaudeville, burlesque and the structured gentility of the Victorian age. In aggregate, steampunk is a trend that is rapidly outgrowing niche status…

Football, Baseball, and Basketball Oh My

Add comment May 8th, 2008 09:29pm whataslacker

Sports. Some of us hate them and some of us love them. I fall on the hate them end of that scale. But I am surrounded by fans so I see more than my fair share of sports without even wanting to.

At least I am luckier than most as I only have football to deal with and not the full gambit of the sports world. So if you’re the better half of a sports nut tell them about AddictSports.com. It is a one stop site for sports forums, football picks, fantasy sports and more.

Boo to CSI’s Two and a Half Deaths

Add comment May 8th, 2008 09:04pm whataslacker

I don’t know about you but I hate TV that tries to incorporate TV into the show.

Tonight’s CSI really kind of sucked. The regular cast had horrible dry puns that did not work and were very tired. The guest stars all of which are pretty decent actors seemed as if they were given the scripts ten minutes before filming.

Boo CBS and CSI for bring us such a contrived and truly terrible episode. Wow that writers strike really hurt you folks didn’t it?

Even if it had been more than mediocre I would still give it two thumbs down for poking fun at my favorite show Boston Legal by saying it wasn’t a comedy. Well it is really a dramedy and the best darned on the boob tube too!

Flight of Your Life for Your Life

Add comment May 8th, 2008 08:23pm whataslacker

The other night coming home from work I heard a report about a motorcycle accident on the turnpike that had caused traffic in both lanes to be closed due to a helicopter landing to airlift the person to the hospital. You know it is a bad accident when you hear the word “airlift”.

Thank goodness for companies like AeroCare. They are a 24 hour air ambulance service that offers the life saving Medivac services of transporting patients from just about any where in the world. While the services that AeroCare offers differ from those of the accident victim’s swift flight to the hospital they do offer an invaluable service to transplant patients around the globe. Which is a cause near and dear to my heart.

If you ever find yourself in need of medical transport you’ll be glad you heard about AeroCare and their professional medical flight team.
