Do you know what the term “black hat” means. Would you understand it if it were used in a footnote of an article you were reading? Most likely not.

Black Hat is a hacker term for someone who violates computer security.

I was recently appalled by an article about SEO tactics that were so incredibly WRONG it had me seeing red. The article in question is titled: How To Trick Bloggers Into Linking To You and it reads like a DIY kit to SEO via images, Even though the author states the article is a black hat situation (kind of off handed at the end of the article), the article itself would get any photographer angry.

Two things that the article tells people to do (THAT THEY SHOULD NEVER EVER DO) is…

1) use Google image search to post images to your website/blog (stealing images violates copyright laws and is, well, just plan WRONG).

2) use Google’s image search to find blogs using those images then go to the site and claim them as yours (holy crap that is just so wrong I cannot even put it into words).

The article in question reads like a How-To-Guide for folks looking to increase SEO via back linking. Back linking is good this article and all it suggests is not.

The guy that wrote it is the one who developed Triberr (a good tool for bloggers), but this article really undermines his integrity if you ask me.

So basically, just don’t trust anything you read over at DIYblogger.net.

Think I Have Learned a Valuable Lesson

OK, last night I spent all that time driving home playing with the Dragon Naturally Speaking App on my phone thinking it would help me get my ideas out of my head and onto “paper” so to speak. Well, all it did was teach me a very valuable lesson.

DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE AT ALL WHILE DRIVING. JUST DRIVE!

I “missed” nearly 20 miles of my commute because I wasn’t paying attention to the road. I could have killed myself or some one else. It is never good to not be able to figure out how you got from point A to point B on a road trip, but to know it was because you were screwing around with an app on the phone this is doubly not good!

To add even more fear into my evening I got a call that my only sister was in a pretty bad car accident that night. She was not texting or even near her phone but it drove home the fact that something bad can happen in the blink of an eye.

PLEASE DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE. This is now against the law in PA (thank goodness). But when will PA wise up and make using the phone while driving at all a crime?

Weird Dreams

Had a dream the other night where I was stuck in this little town (one I dream about often but have never been in) and I was circling the same three block radius. Every time I would pass this one intersection there was an accident. A different accident each time I passed. Finally after about the fifth time around I stopped to talk to someone about all the accidents. After that I all of the sudden find myself dumpster diving. I am digging coke reward points out of the trash.

I know the trapped part of the dream means I am feeling trapped or stuck about something in my life but what in the world is the meaning of dreaming about diggin through a trash dumpster?

Dreams are just weird. I tell you.

Chasing Dogs on the Highway

I spent a good part of my morning trying to save some dogs on the highway again! This is the second time in like 2 or 3 months. This time it was on the other end of 176. All of the sudden the traffic came to a screeching halt and I saw two dogs running back across the highway after almost being hit by a truck (who apparently couldn’t care less if he hit the dogs or not).

Three of us stopped and tried to save the scared pups. One was a st. bernard and the other a shepherd mix. We got them off the road but they wouldn’t come to anyone. They finally went through a hole in the fence and ran up through the woods.

There are two things I would like to see happen. 1) People would take better care with there animals and know where they are and 2) people on the roads would be a little cautious around animals no matter if it is a skunk, a deer or a dog.

Harrowing experience on the highway this morning

I was driving to work when all of the sudden on the road directly in front of me was a 5 gallon bucket. I was in the passing lane and said bucket was in the middle of that lane. The pickup truck in front of me was high enough to clear the bucket (it was on its side) otherwise I could have been hit by a flying bucket and had my wind shield broken. Unfortunately there was as no room to get around the bucket. A white porche was next to me and there was a steep hill to my left. So my choices were hit the bucket, hit the porche or roll my car down a hill. I went with hit the bucket.

It made a horrible sound and shot across the right lane just missing that porche. Needless to say I was extremely stressed out by the whole thing. I haven’t got the money to fix any damage to my car or anyone else s either.

Plus with my past experience I was pretty shook up even though it turned out to be a rather minor incident when all was said and done. Here’s hoping tomorrow’s commute goes better.
