Anna-KareninaWho doesn’t love Keira Knightley? Especially when she’s in a love story of the ages now available on Blu-ray and DVD. I know, I know. But I am not all scifi and action films. Sometimes a good romance gets to me.

Synopsis: Academy Award® nominee Keira Knightley, Academy Award® nominee Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson dazzle in this stunning new vision of Leo Tolstoy’s epic love story. At the twilight of an empire, Anna Karenina (Knightley), the beautiful high-ranking wife of one of imperial Russia’s most esteemed men (Law), has it all. But when she meets the dashing cavalry officer Vronsky (Taylor-Johnson), there is a mutual spark of instant attraction that cannot be ignored. She’s immediately swept up in a passionate affair that will shock a nation and change the lives of everyone around her. From acclaimed director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) and Academy Award®-winning writer Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) comes this visually enchanting masterpiece hailed by critics as “ecstatic” (Time), “rapturous” (MSN Movies) and “a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed!” (The Huffington Post)

The MasterAnchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD release of THE MASTER, the innovative film that has won over audiences and critics alike.  Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), the 1950s-set drama centers on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “The Master” (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Moneyball) who creates a belief system which catches on with other lost souls – and a young WW-II veteran (Joaquin Phoenix, Gladiator) who becomes his right-hand man.  In addition to Hoffman and Phoenix, the film also stars Amy Adams (Doubt) and Laura Dern (Little Fockers). THE MASTER heads to retail on February 26, 2013 for an SRP of $39.99 for the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and $29.98 for the DVD.

Haunted by his past, WW-II veteran and drifter Freddie Quell crosses paths with a mysterious movement called The Cause, led by Lancaster Dodd aka “The Master” and his wife Peggy.  Their twisted relationship is the core of this film that is “a glorious and haunting symphony of color, emotion and sound with camera movements that elicit an involuntary gasp and feats of acting that defy comprehension (A.O Scott, The New York Times).”

Joe Neumaier of The New York Daily News declared THE MASTER, “the season’s first Oscar contender.” THE MASTER received the following 2012 Academy Award® nominations -  Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Amy Adams for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.  The film received three Golden Globes® Nominations including Best Actor in a Drama Joaquin Phoenix, Best Supporting Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and Best Supporting Actress Amy Adams.

Awarded Best Actor for both Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, THE MASTER is a film “that casts a spell like a fever dream (David Ansen, Newsweek).”

Stunningly photographed in 65mm, THE MASTER stands as an undeniable cinematic experience. Will Freddie be able to outrun his past?  Will The Cause help or hurt him? Can this tortured, violent creature be civilized?  Or is man, after all, just a dirty animal?

FrankenweenieIf you were like me and missed the movie in the theater (I am still kicking myself over that), you will be happy to hear that the arrival of this zombie doggy at your door is only weeks away.

Disney & Tim Burton have announced the Blu-ray & DVD release of the film on January 8th.

Again if you are like me, you will be adding this to your calendar to run out and pick it up on release date to save a few bucks and of course be able to finally get to see this film.

I love Tim Burton, his stop-motion animation and even his live motion short of Frankenweenie. What? You did not know Frankenweenie was originally a live action short film? Yep it was. In fact it appeared on the Nightmare Before Christmas DVD, but now you will be able to own it on the 4 disc Blu-ray set (which also includes the 3D version of the film)….Santa better remember to bring me my LG 3D TV I asked for.

Order your copy of Frankenweenie today and avoid the rush to the store :)

GLEE SEASON 2 DVD STRIKES A CHORD WITH “GIVE A NOTE” CAMPAIGN, $1 MILLION DONATION TO HELP SAVE ARTS PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 13, 2011) – Jane Lynch has revved up her megaphone to tout the benefits of arts education is schools, starring in a public service announcement (PSA) that debuts tonight at 8:45pm Eastern Standard Time on the Fox Network’s “GLEE” program. It’s the centerpiece of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s campaign to donate $1 million to arts education around the country and Lynch is the featured spokesperson as the harsh and witty cheer coach, “Sue Sylvester.” Beyond “GLEE,” the PSA is expected to air on television and cable stations across the country.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) have teamed up for “GLEE Give a Note,” a campaign to donate $1 million to school arts programs across the country. Eligible high schools are invited to submit videos about why their school deserves a grant at www.GleeGiveANote.com. In December 2011, after two rounds of voting, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will name the 73 schools that will receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

TV’s musical sensation, “GLEE” THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON comes to Blu-ray and DVD September 13th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment packed with all 22 episodes and never-before-seen bonus features sure to incite fans everywhere to “Gleek Out.”

GLEE is a biting musical comedy about a group of eager and ambitious students who strive to outshine their singing competition to win Nationals while navigating the cruel halls of McKinley High, garnering an incredible 19 Emmy nominations – earning it the distinction of being the most-nominated series of the year – and four Emmy Awards.

If you have not seen this PSA it is hilarious and has an excellent message! If we enjoy shows like GLEE why are we allowing our public school systems across the country to kill the arts programs? Without the school arts programs we would have no GLEE. Please support them in their efforts to keep the arts in schools!

Mad Max (not The Road Warrior) but the actual Australian un-dubbed version is currently playing on my TV. At first I was wondering why they dubbed his voice at all because the accent really isn’t that bad. But as the film progresses Mel’s voice gets quieter and he is a bit of a mumbly mouth [...]

Watched the movie 28 Weeks Later the other day even though I really did not like the first film. The first film, 28 Days Later, was much better than the second one and that still isn’t saying too much. Both films spend far too much time showing us shots of an empty London and never bother [...]

It is the 50th anniversary of the film THE BLOB. Filmed in Chester County way back in 1958 and starring Steve McQueen. Each year the Colonial Theater (this would be the theater in the famous scene where everyone is running out escaping the BLOB) has a BLOBfest to celebrate their fifteen minutes of fame and [...]
