My favorite way to unwind on the weekends is with a bowl of ice cream and a good movie. Now that I have Dish Network I don’t have to rent a movie—there is always something on. Last weekend after the kids went to bed my wife and I scooped out some rocky road and sat down to watch The Client. Although it’s an older movie, my wife and I are both John Grisham fans and enjoy watching any movie based on his books. This one has especially good actors with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones starring in major roles. I had forgotten that Brad Renfro was also in this one. If you haven’t seen it, it really is worth sitting down and watching. Brad Renfro plays a young man who witnesses the suicide of a mobsters lawyer. Susan Sarandon plays the attorney he hires to help him because both the police and the mob realize he knows too much. I can’t say much else without giving too much away, but you should definitely check it out if you haven’t seen it!

GLEE SEASON 2 DVD STRIKES A CHORD WITH “GIVE A NOTE” CAMPAIGN, $1 MILLION DONATION TO HELP SAVE ARTS PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 13, 2011) – Jane Lynch has revved up her megaphone to tout the benefits of arts education is schools, starring in a public service announcement (PSA) that debuts tonight at 8:45pm Eastern Standard Time on the Fox Network’s “GLEE” program. It’s the centerpiece of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s campaign to donate $1 million to arts education around the country and Lynch is the featured spokesperson as the harsh and witty cheer coach, “Sue Sylvester.” Beyond “GLEE,” the PSA is expected to air on television and cable stations across the country.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) have teamed up for “GLEE Give a Note,” a campaign to donate $1 million to school arts programs across the country. Eligible high schools are invited to submit videos about why their school deserves a grant at www.GleeGiveANote.com. In December 2011, after two rounds of voting, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will name the 73 schools that will receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.

TV’s musical sensation, “GLEE” THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON comes to Blu-ray and DVD September 13th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment packed with all 22 episodes and never-before-seen bonus features sure to incite fans everywhere to “Gleek Out.”

GLEE is a biting musical comedy about a group of eager and ambitious students who strive to outshine their singing competition to win Nationals while navigating the cruel halls of McKinley High, garnering an incredible 19 Emmy nominations – earning it the distinction of being the most-nominated series of the year – and four Emmy Awards.

If you have not seen this PSA it is hilarious and has an excellent message! If we enjoy shows like GLEE why are we allowing our public school systems across the country to kill the arts programs? Without the school arts programs we would have no GLEE. Please support them in their efforts to keep the arts in schools!

That’s right I am a gleek.

I wasn’t at first. Only watched a few episodes from the first season and scond season. While I liked the show I just had too many things on my DVR to keep up with Glee. So I deleted them from the recordings.

Then I sat down this weekend and watched the entire first season on Netflix streaming. Now I am kicking myself for deleting season two from my DVR, because I will now have to wait until next week for it to come out on DVD.

I first heard about OWN: the new Oprah Winfrey Network when my cable company informed me that Discovery Health would be turning into OWN.  I enjoyed the late night shows on Discovery Health and new Oprah’s new network really wasn’t going to be something I wanted to watch.

So when SheSpeaks.com gave me the opportunity to view one of the new shows on OWN prior to the premiere of the channel on my cable network I thought I would give it a chance and see what it would be all about.

The show was “Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star”. My first reaction was, “Oh great yet another reality TV series.”

I am not a fan of any show that makes people fight, bicker or argue on camera. If I wanted to watch that I could sit on my front porch and watch the city go by. I want real entertainment. Something that takes my mind off of the every day grind. Not add to it.

So needless to say I was less than impressed with the show but I was even less thrilled by the cast of characters trying to get there OWN show. There was no one in that group except maybe the woman that already worked in television that I could see EVER having a show or at least having a show that went beyond an episode or two.

The other shows on the network are just more reality or talk shows. Again not something that will have me setting my DVR or tuning my TV to that station. Sorry Oprah. Not that she’ll miss this one viewer with her 80 million plus fans out there watch her every move.

Well I have pretty much already beat this to death, but I feel it needs repeating. FEARnet is the only horror channel on Comcast and quite frankly it is the worst one out there. Come on Comcast give us something better please.

Oh, you can ask for channels but they never add them so why bother?

Additional reasons that FEARnet and Comcast suck can be found here:

CBS announces new licensing agreements to hock Twilight Zone merchandise inlcuding a US postage stamp (probably the reason stamps are going up to 44 cents in May). Other products will include games, dolls and Hallmark ornaments. So I guess the new Star Trek film isn’t the only thing CBS is whoring out.

Don’t know if you are aware of this or not (and it might be too late at this point, but hey you have until 6pm est to head out to a store and find yourself the glasses) there will be a 3D commercial during the game. Yep, 3D as in jumping off the screen at [...]

In the season opener of Big Bang Theory we find Sheldon staying over at Howard’s because he cannot keep a secret Penny told him from Leonard. Once settled in bed Sheldon begins to ramble about Catwoman due to the Halle Berry Poster over Howard’s bed. Here’s their conversation. After this I will give my list [...]

I am not really the Jodi Foster fan in the family, I just get pulled along for the ride, so to speak. While I do enjoy most of her films, I am not ga-ga over her like some people I know. So then, why am I writing about her today? Sometimes one of the keyword [...]

A friend of mine turned me onto the TV series The Middleman. Of course like everything in my life I am a day late and a dollar short. I caught only three (actual 2 and 2/3s) episodes and now it is over. It was on ABC family and what I have seen of it its [...]

Watching Bones tonight. It is the season premiere. Aren’t season premieres supposed to be something spectacular or at the very least be a little better than a regular episode? You know to suck you in and get you hooked so you stick around for the rest of the season. They’re not supposed to suck all [...]

Even though this life-sized replica of the Lost In Space robot (also known as the B9 robot) is half the price of the Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet he is still $25,000 more than I have to spend on a giant toy. Although I would love to have him.  B9 is not just a [...]

So my first real look at the Olympics happened to be the young girls of the Chinese gymnastic team winning the gold. My thoughts while watching them were how young they looked. I like the rest of the world had to Google how old you were supposed to be to compete and then how old [...]
