Bummer for the Mummers

I heard on the radio today that the Mummers Parade might be in trouble this year. It wouldn’t be New Years without the Mummer’s Parade! I no longer sit and watch the whole thing but we always have it on at some point.

Apparently the city of Philadelphia has cut the Mummer’s budget (actually what the city gives the Mummers toward the parade). The used to give them something like a million bucks and this year all they are going to shell out is $300,000.

I don’t live in Philly, but I think it is more important to keep some of these traditions and history alive than to bring casinos into the city.

Here’s hoping there will be some fancy groups strutting their stuff this year.
