I had a rather disturbing thing happen on the way to work and quite frankly it was a horrible way to start my day.

I was speeding along the turnpike as usual when up ahead I spotted a little groundhog trying his hardest to make it across the road. He got across the first lane of traffic fine only narrowly escaping the Mack truck only to be struck down by the SUV in the next lane.

His, hopefully, lifeless body came tumbling towards me at a high rate of speed coming to rest up against the cement medium.

I still can’t shake that image. It really messed me up most of the day. Poor little guy. Even if he had made it across where would he have gone? Upon reaching the middle of the road he would have been met with an insurmountable cement wall. Why don’t they make them with a gap in them every few yards? Or make the mediums out of cement columns instead of solid walls? Something.

I was witness to an invasion last night.

Okay, not so much of an invasion as one giant spider from Mars.

Okay, it wasn’t from Mars.

It was from the ceiling.

Okay, it wasn’t giant either, but when it is only inches from your face hanging there with all eight of its evil little legs squirming at u in the light on the TV it looks friggin’ HUGE!

I detest spiders.

Okay, maybe that is a little strong.

I hate them.

Still too strong. I extremely dislike them and do not want them near me ever, especially two inches from my face when I am trying to go to bed.

My fear, disgust, distrust of them keeps me from even being able to squish them dead so that I can go on with my pathetic little existence as  a spider loathing human being. I was ousted from my own bedroom in the middle of the night from a creature the size of my thumb nail. How does that work?

I like Spider-man. I like spider themed jewelry and art. I even like watching them on the Discovery channel. I just don’t like them on my head.

Spider: 1

Me: 0

(If you are keeping score.)

Well I have pretty much already beat this to death, but I feel it needs repeating. FEARnet is the only horror channel on Comcast and quite frankly it is the worst one out there. Come on Comcast give us something better please.

Oh, you can ask for channels but they never add them so why bother?

Additional reasons that FEARnet and Comcast suck can be found here:

Well if you have been reading my blog for any amount of time you know I have an ongoing issue with Comcast Cable and their crappy service. This time it is their customer service. I have already pointed out their enormous cost before so let me just tell you how shocked I was by my bill once my triple play pricing special ran out. So I grabbed a phone and gave them a call. I was put on hold then disconnected. Okay, so I call back this time I get some one who says they are going to look into it for me. Again I am put on hold and the call is disconnected! At this point my frustration has turned to anger so I decide I am going to wait a few days and call back.

A couple of days go by and I try calling again. This time I get some one who seems eager to help and isn’t hanging up on me. He supposedly tries to  change my plans to reduce my costs, but every time he does his computer crashes. He reboots twice before telling me to call back again.

Well their ploy worked. I gave up trying and I continue to pay them way too much money all because I could not get any customer service.

Their commercials talk about how wonderful they are and how if they don’t fix something on the first call they’ll give you $20. Wonder if that guarantee works when you cannot get satisfaction from their call center?

Last week, September 22 to be exact, we saw a horrible image on the news. It was of an adorable little brown tabby cat all wrapped up like a mummy in duct tape. We could not bear to watch the whole news clip to find out what, who or why it had happened.

The news is just to darn depressing to watch especially when it shows poor helpless animals or children who have suffered at the hands of an adult that should know better. (That is why I have such a hard time forgiving Michael Vick or the Eagles for signing a dog murderer.) We treat all life with respect and wish the rest of humanity would too.

The following day we learned that the little kitty would be okay and that the PSPCA was offering a reward for news leading to an arrest in the case.

The PSPCA had named the lil tabby cat Sticky (how appropriately cute). While we really wanted to run into Philly and adopt her on the spot, we already have four cats in our little city home. We just couldn’t offer a proper home to another cat at this time. So we silently wished her well knowing she would be quickly adopted since her horrible ordeal was aired on the news. Turns out more than 100 people had called in wanting to adopt her!

Today we got the good news from the PSPCA that not only did Sticky get a forever home, but the bad man that had done this to her had been arrested and is now facing criminal charges.

Our hope is that the 99 plus people that did not get to adopt Sticky could open their hearts and their homes to another kitty cat awaiting adoption at the PSPCA.

Below you will find two signs I happened across. Both of which are missing commas therefore making the meaning of the sign slightly different than intended. Not quite as much fun as the Blog of Unnecessary Quotes, but almost. I am not quite sure what an alcohol dog is and I have never heard of a drying vacuum either…

PopHangover.com HungoverThe fine and rather sarcastic folks over at Pophangover.com must have been hungover when they reviewed the Spock action figure on their site.

Take a look at the picture to the right. As you can see they are clearly talking about the NEW Spock action figures from Playmates Toys, but are comparing it to Leonard Nimoy as Spock. So of course the photo of the actual person isn’t going to look ANYTHING like the action figure and vice versa.

Perhaps as a pop culture site they are so out of touch with reality that they don’t really know what is going on in the world of pop culture any more? Have they had their collective heads in the sand for the past year? Do they not know that their is a NEW Star Trek movie with a whole new cast? Spock is now played by Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes).

Now with that new knowledge people, try your little review again. Your two main complaints about the figure seem a perfect match when compared to the correct actor.

Quinto as Spock Quinto Toy vs Nimoy Spock

I would say the toy is pretty close, not dead on, but pretty dang close to Quinto (but certainly not Nimoy). And I’m the slacker here 🙂

Wonder if we could get Pennsylvania to pass a state law that prohibits trucks from driving in the left lane? I don’t know about you, but I am sick of driving along at the speed limit only to have to slow down to 45 or less because some stupid ass truck driver thought he had to pass another truck and either can’t or won’t go any faster. Hey if you aren’t even doing the speed limit please stay in the right lane.

Why not make a law like this. It isn’t like it would ever be enforced. We already have stupid laws on the books that polic and drivers ignore. Just the other day I was driving in a construction zone (with my lights on because it is the law) and passed a cop. He did nothing to either the car in front of or behind me, neither had their lights on.

Target pharmacy has pissed me off. These days that is real easy to do (not that it isn’t pretty easy any old time, just more so now). Target no longer calls their customers — well, customers. They call them guests instead. I think it is to foster a better image, but it doesn’t work. All it does is allow them to ignore the age-old adage that the customer is always right (whoever heard of the guest is always right?) Heck, it even allows them to ignore the customer.

Well in my home the guest is treated with respect and gets pretty much what they want not so at Target especially the pharmacy. I went on Sunday; my only available day, to pick up my prescriptions and the pharmacy was closed for lunch! They can’t even man the pharmacy for the posted hours for their store. For god’s sake take people from other departments but don’t shut down in the middle of the day when people need to get their medications. I could not wait for it to re-open as I had to get to the hospital and it would be closed by the time I got home. I had to wait until my next day off to make a special trip in to Target just to pick up my pills. If I weren’t already boycotting CVS I would take my business there. Maybe I will see how the new Rite-aid does with my next Rx.

I’m just saying if you can’t be open during published hours then maybe you don’t deserve any business?

Raid Kills BugsWired magazine had an article a little while back that caught my eye, it was titled “Kills Bugs Dead, And Cats Too.” The article tells us what’s inside RAID. If you are a cat owner like me, you will be removing this dangerous substance from your home. I absolutely hate spiders and relied on RAID to rid my house of these eight-legged monster, I’ll just have to find a new way to kill those spiders.

Raid contains Pyrethrin and Pyrethroids, which are poisons that cause nerve cells to remain open too long, according to Wired this makes “the neurons fire repeatedly resulting in paralysis and death.” They also go on to say that these two poisons are supposed to be the least deadly pesticides to mammals. However, you still have to keep it away from your cat as cats’ livers cannot process Pyrethrin fast enough and will die.

I don’t know about you but I would rather keep my cat healthy and deal with a few bugs than hurt my bestest best friend.

I will keep my eyes open for an alternative to RAID. I have been looking at a few natural pesticides and hope they will work and be safe for my cats.

I was just over at SheSpeaks.com (trying to sign up for a product test) when I stumbled onto their blog post about this video game that even I think is rather disgusting (coming from me that means a lot).

Mind you, I am not one for censorship, but this game pushes the envelope (even my envelope and hopefully yours too). And I have to say I almost agree with it being pulled from online stores like Amazon and eBay.

The game is called Rapelay and I can only hope it has a rating of MATURE and all places selling it are checking Ids before handing it over to anyone. (Shame you can’t do a psych evaluation too as this game is harsh and some sick minds thrive on this shit.)

If you thought Grand Theft Auto and the like were bad influences on your kids they have nothing on this game where you stalk, assault and rape mothers and their daughters.

People are trying to get this horrid game banned. But I am not so sure a ban is really what should be done. Historically banned games, videos, and music always seem to sell more after they have been banned. What needs to be done is to educate parents about these things, encourage them to watch what their kids are playing and get those parents to stop the game from ever entering their kids lives, because if people want this game they will get it ban or no ban.

This is the type of video game that you would expect to find in a Hentai shop or an adult bookstore along with all the other sex games, not on the shelves of your local Walmart or even the virtual shelves of Amazon or eBay.

Last month (Feb 4th) Facebook changed their terms of service to state that users content would be stored, not unlike email, and, here’s the kicker, that Facebook had rights to your content. So by uploading images, videos, stories etc you were giving Facebook rights to use your content in any way they saw fit.

If I upload something for my friends (or even open to the public) I should have all rights and controls over that content. Facebook should have to come to me to use or profit from what I post before they use it.

I am not the only one that feels this way. Facebook has backed up their TOS to an older version and is now opening it up to discussion and voting (kind of) on Facebook via two groups you can join and post your thoughts about the new TOS. This forum is only open until March 29th so go give them a piece of your mind.

Our friends Gary and Faith were fined because they did not shovel their grass! Can you believe that? When I first heard about this from my friend Scott I thought it was the stupidest thing in the entire world then I saw the news tonight and I changed my position. Now I think the mayor of Laureldale is the stupidest thing in the entire world or at least his position on the fining of his constituents over not shoveling snow from the grass around their homes is. Anyone wanna place a bet that a certain mayor won’t be re-elected next term?

Well, this travesty of justice is no longer just a Reading news tidbit it has made it to the Philadelphia news (maybe we can take it national).

If there is no sidewalk then people should not be walking there in the first place. Heck, I would not want my lawn destroyed by people walking all over it let alone destroyed by having to shovel a bare spot in it. If the town wants people to have public walkways around their homes then they should put in sidewalks on all sides of all homes. Then and only then can I see enforcing a law about snow removal, but removal of snow from a yard, no way.

It is a little ridiculous to be digging out 50-year-old laws and sticking people with $110 fines without any warning. If Laureldale wants there to be a safe walkway there then put in a sidewalk, but don’t ask them to ruin their lawns by shoveling or even allowing people to trespass on their private property. No sidewalk makes it a private lawn not a public thoroughfare.

Watch the news clip and/or read the whole sad sorted story at 6ABC.com.
